Nutmeg is one spice, more than most others, that the difference in flavor from the whole nutmeg to the ground nutmeg is dramatic. If at all possible, make your way to a whole foods, or specialty foods store to get whole nutmeg, and ground it yourself when you need it (can easily be done with a microplane or grater).
For whatever reason, once nutmeg is ground, it loses a lot of its flavor in the first week. Seeing that most of the ground spices you see at the grocery store were ground over a week ago when you buy them, it will have lost a good bit of its flavor.
Also, buying a container of whole nutmeg will last you a long time. The whole nutmeg keeps quite a while, and there's no way you will use enough to run out quickly.
A little goes a long way with that spice.

Anywhere that they sell herbs and spices! But do you want whole nutmeg or ground nutmeg? If you buy the whole nutmeg then you will need a proper grater - and you will probably find one at somewhere like Homebase.
If it is of any help, the outside bit of nutmeg is mace, which has a milder flavour. You may have seen some of that around.

In the same place that you buy your other herbs and spices - whole or grated nutmegs aren't difficult to get hold of. Any supermarket will have nutmeg.

at most supermarkets or whole food shops u can either buy it ground or u can get the actual nutmeg but for that u will need a grinder like grater thing made for nutmeg

you mean fresh nutmeg? try a gourmet store or whole foods, some supermarkets will have the whole nut next to the ground nutmeg

You can find it at all the other grocery stores. It is usually in a really small bottle also the spice is brown and the grocery stores alphabetize there spices sp just take a longer look.
