The sad part is, the cost of Freedom isnt free and I too have served in uniform. No, they dont die in vein and no matter what people say, its not for oil. The UN had and still has no power to do anything. In fact, its a waste of time and taxpayer money. All it is a bunch of third world countries trying to act big. They had so many resolutions against Sadam and couldnt enforce a single one of them. that is why some UN members got rich in the Oil for food scandals.
If you look back to the early 80's, we have been at war with terror. Look at all the bombings that have occured, from the Marine Barracks in Beirute, to 911. If you will remember, the WTC was attacked once before with a truck bomb in the basement.
We either have to take the battle to them, or sit back and wait for them to make the next move in our own backyard. Look around the world and you will see that there are attacks almost daily, and I am not talking about Iraq or Afghanistan. Do we want daily car bombs or suicide bombers in our country? No!!!
Also, look at history and you will see that from WWl to date, there have been no " quick conflicts" and America has had to stay the course. That is why we have troops in Germany, France, Korea and Japan.
Support our troops and lets get the job done and bring them home.

We did use control and restraint on several occasions. As SGT Rock put it sanctions didn't work. Saddam was still selling oil to the French,Germans and anyone else who would buy it. No soldier has died in Vain over here. I am a civilian contractor over here and retired from the Army. I lost a friend here his death was not in Vain. We have constant threats from the insurgency still and lose some valuable Iraqi staff as well. So no death over here is in vain.

If you do not like studies, you can also join army and die for energy security of country. Saddam was stabilising force in gulf region, which is now united by shias and they will soon distroy israel and saudi wahabis if USA withdraws its soldies and support, so more USA soldiers will die. Make sure you are not one of those soldies. Instead be a politician to do lip service, join MNC's to profit from oil, be a scientist to make weapons, be a reporter to discuss deaths or be a lawyer to talk about all this in lunchtime.

They didn't die in vain and they don't give a damn how you feel about the war. Your support or non support has meaning only to politicians. Go after them. The soldiers did their duty and performed their role. A friend of mine is in Afghanistan. He said that he didn't join the forces to be the best warehouseman in Gagetown. He is a soldier and when there is a war soldiers go. Sometimes they die. War is what soldiers do. Arguing about policy is what politicians and civilians do. Soldiers follow orders and do their duty.

We tried controlling Saddam for atleast a decade from outside, did'nt work. No way, they suffered in vain. Although, I have to admit we did'nt like it down there very much, it was just hard to believe in what we were doing until we saw the grateful Iraqi people.

Had I died over there, I wouldn't have felt it was in vain. Oh, sure, some people think we are there for the oil, or there for the beaches, or there because we got bored one day and said 'Hey, lets go invade a country.'

I support the military 100%, but I think a 50 cent bullet, aimed at the right head, will do more good than a hundred tanks.
