Put the dog in a sit stay. Do this on a long lead. You can do this with 2 people. Stand over the lead with someone behind you. When you give the command, come, the person behind you gently tugs on the lead. Make sure the dog does a come front and sits in front of you. Straighten the dog up in front of you and praise the heck out of the dog. Once you have the dog in a front, then make the dog do a finish either left or right. Remember to praise the dog for doing a job well done. I have a boy that gets confused still on recalls. Lay off the sit stays and down stays for a while and work on recalls. Sometimes the dogs just get confused when they are told to do a sit stay and then they get a command to come for a recall. When training for AKC obedience, you need to be able to have the dog do commands around other dogs, otherwise you will fail in the ring. Some distraction in training is needed. Find a Obedience club near your home. They are the best places to train for obedience.

collies are intelligent breeds so they should learn quickly. Get a training leash ( same as a normal leash but about 30 feet. Get the dog to wait at one end and walk away from it. Call the dog using one or 2 words only "name come" "name here" if the dog doesnt come give a tug on the leash until it does so reward it when it comes dog should get the message quickly

Take your collie somewhere quieter with no people, get them to sit and stay(not too far away from you)and call them. Make sure you praise with a toy or treat, then keep practising until your dog and you are further apart, thats how we trained ours.

Recall needs to be built on a solid foundation of sit, stay, down control first anyway. Good luck, you'll enjoy the read too.
