Has anyone tried Lithuim for their Bipolar Dissorder, and did the rewards of it outwiegh the risks??

I have tried many other meds that haven't worked well and cost upwards of $400 a month. I was told that Lithium works well in most difficult cases and cost a whole lot less.

I was on Lithium for Bipolar for five years and yes the rewards did outweigh the risks. If you look after your salt intake and drink plenty of water while on them the risks are very low. My results were that I found it numbed my emotions to within a very healthy controlled level. Which unfortunately after many years I found some what frustrating considering this also meant I could not feel extreme happiness when the situation called for it, though everyone reacts diffrently to it.
As another poster said its not normally used on people with bi-polar, so my advice is to not use it for an extended time. Having said that some of the side affects I had were a little weight gain, shaking hands and a dry mouth, but apart from them I found it a very good and safe drug to use.

Lithium is not the choice meds for bi-polar. I think you need to speak to your doctor about other choices. There are many.

Talk to your doctor. He will tell you which Rx is best for you. He will run blood tests and ask the proper questions about you. What works for one person doesn't work the same for another.
