is it unusual not to properly kiss on the first date?
I went out with this chick to the cinemas, and we held hands and were close........i tried to maintain eye contact for a proper kiss, but she just watched the movie. Later we went to dinner, and then for a walk around the harbour holding hands. We pecked on the lips as she was about to leave. She also explained that she had a lot of uni work to do and basically cut our date a little short because she seemed stressed out cos of it. I dunno whether she still likes me or not.

It's usual that people don't kiss on the first date. If I had been you, I would have just kissed her on her face when you were in the movie. If she had let you kiss, you could have done a proper kiss that night.
If she excuses to go back earlier, you still have hopes.
There are girls who are shy or don't want you to think they are easy also cut the dates short. It's funny that guys tend to stick to these girls without knowing they have another date the same night for instant or they simply don't like you.
The girl who stays late with you may bore you, but you don't know she really likes you.
Spend more time with her to understand her more. At this stage nothing is solid yet.
