Hell everyone else is talking about it I might as well chime in.

Krav Maga is a form of self defense developed by Imi Sde Or, or Imi Lichtenfield. It was developed as a intuitive easy to learn form of self defense that could be taught to people of all sizes and fitness level. It was meant to be kept simple and intuitive as it was to be taught to the Israeli Defense Force. As everyone is required to serve in the IDF in Israel, it needed to be something everyone could use.

Krav Maga focuses on real world situations and reactions, utilizing tactics to be used in life or limb situations. It is actually pretty well reknown in the Martial Arts community for having some of the best, and more realistic weapon disarms.

Krav Maga uses strikes, eye gouges, soft tissue attacks, joint locks, and improvised weapons as a means of disabling or killing a would be attacker.

A typical Krav class uses a lot of pad work to hone your strikes, it may even use strobe lights, loud music or noises, and various other outside stimuli to help you focus and respond to an attack under durrest.

The simple answer- Krav Maga is a martial art developed in Israeli, and used the world over now in various military and law enforcement agencies as a means of self defense, utlizing striking with every viable striking surface of your body, soft tissue attacks, jointlocks, chokes, improvised weapons, and reaction towards being attacked with a weapon.

Hope that helps.
