i just don't get it. Please help.

By the way, any christians about to call me a heathen or pagan, Buddhists don't worship buddha, we believe he was nothing more then a man who stayed behind in order to help those still suffering, so don't waste your time insulting me.

When Buddha gave the lotus flower that he called the key to Mahakashyapa it was because he felt Mahakasyapa truely understood his message. This is known as the birth of Zen because Zen buddhists believe that the First principal of Zen cannot be comunicated through words, only through presence and thought. When Mahakasyapa laughed he did so because he understood this and found it hiarious that everyone listened raptly when he spoke, and they couldn't get anything out of it, yet were very disconcerted when he was silent, and this was when they could truly learn something. This is known as the one moment of Zen, a time when a person has waht is known as inner silence, outer laughter. It is cryptic, but very important all the less.
