I don't believe there isn't a God.

There isn't any good evidence to support the theory that there *is* a God, therefore there isn't. It's basic science. Belief doesn't come into it.

It's not the responsibility of the person denying the claim to prove anything. It's the responsibility of the person making the claim. In this case, the claim is that God exists. My default position with any claim (e.g. "My cat can fly", "I see dead people", "I've got a million dollars") is to consider it false until proven true. Otherwise anybody could claim anything. So far, nobody has proven the existence of God true to my satisfaction, therefore the claim is false.

See how that works?

Ok - Ask and ye shall learn!

First, I'm implicit atheist. I don't believe in God, because there is no evidence for God, but I can't say for certain that there is no God, so I don't actually believe there is no God.

Simply put, I don't believe in God.

Anyway, I searched and I searched but really, nothing ever required a God.

Eventually, I based all my beliefs on evidence; and there is an absence of evidence for God, so I have a lack of belief.

However, if anyone wants to tell me I "just haven't felt it" they can jump off a bridge. (Long story, but I felt it a lot of times. It was merely delusion)

Finally, I did wonder how the Bible could be made by man.

I read it, and found the answer in Psalm 14:1 - that was not Holy. In fact, it directly contradicted reality, because I already knew a number of non-fool atheists.

If the book was not Holy, it was authored by humans. As it turned out, (when I was older and smarter) it is not THAT difficult for one person among the millions down the ages to realise things pretty clearly.

Morals were also a concern for a while - and here is where you can see how well you understand evolution.

I got my morals from evolution.

This means that I must attempt to create a society in which as many as possible are happy and survive - I must be honest, help the poor, disregard jealousy et cetera.

It was just the laws of physics but it does say things about morals if you happen to be really into it.

That leads me to where I am today - an atheist myself but promoting understanding between religions, and in fact encouraging some (but not others) to take up religion.

There you go! Hope it helped!

It sure was nice to get a normal question after bieng told I was stupid/ignorant/hate god/ et cetera about 800 times in a row.

Finally, don't let people tell you that atheists are immoral because they don't think they will have to face judgement - it really is the same as saying Christians are immoral because they think they can be forgiven for any sin.

:)

For the same reason I don't believe there are little invisible pixies at the bottom of my garden. The idea is ridiculous. Religion makes it even more so. The idea of some supposedly higher being demanding to be worshipped yet not even having the decency to make a personal appearance in fact it's insulted that you even expect it to is completely repugnant. A higher being should not require worship. It's illogical, inconsistent and quite frankly doesn't make you a better person regardless of however many times your preacher tells you so.

Your god is (according to most believers) all powerful and all loving yet a child dies of starvation every minute. I fail to see anything all powerful and all loving.

I've been an atheist for 18 years and I've never had any urge to rape, murder, steal or do generally evil things. People have commented on how kind I am. No jesus required.

I am also disgusted that believers find the idea of hell acceptable, even right - some genuinely think torturing people for all eternity for not believing the same thing as they do is a-ok - that is VILE! I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Not that I have any enemies.

Where do i think I'm going in life? Wherever it leads, I'm riding the rollercoaster.

Where do I think I'm going in death? No-where death is the end. It being sad doesn't make it less true.

And yes the world is amazing and no we don't understand everything about it, but thats more to do with our own limited understanding it's not evidence that GODDIDIT! People used to believe gods caused lightning because they didn't understand how it works.

Have you never noticed that all believers think they're going to heaven? Regardless of what they do - their particular flavour of religion is just compatible with them getting into heaven. How you all pick and chose exactly what parts of your holy book you're going to follow and what parts you're not.

People *want* to believe a god exists because heaven sounds nice and how to world works is beyond our comprehension.

Atheists and Agnostics tend to be more realist. Meaning if you can't use one of your 5 senses, it does not exist. I can't see it, hear it, taste it, smell it or touch it, then there is no logical way to "believe" in it. Despite that, organized religion makes it VERY easy to not be live. Too many people shove a theory down others throats with little or no regard to factual consequence. I could go on for days about this, but I will try to keep it simple.
Evolution is an easy concept to understand, is provable and valid. It MAKES SENSE. The whole "Adam and Eve" thing is not. Its a cute story, don't get me wrong, but the idea that we all came from two people? If you accept that, then you have NO choice but to accept and even condone incest, which I do not.
If you take the bible for what it is, a nice fiction story, then you can understand why people (intelligent, logical thinking people) could not possible believe in a god. All stories in the book were written to keep freedom of thought away. The very idea that a man claimed god told him to bang his servant to have a kid because his wife could not? Please. If that is a god, I want no part of it.

In a nutshell, because there is no reason to believe there is one. I know you'll talk about how wonderful the world is, how well the universe is aligned and so on. But that only accounts for God if you want to believe he exists. That is, you believe in advance, and then you see things and claim God's responsible for them. But you can also just admit that there could be other reasons, even some we haven't understood or discovered yet. It is not possible to understand why those things are as they are.

Science has proven soo much, why have scientist been imprisoned throughout history by religious zealots when they discover something that does not coincide with the book? That's odd. Like the first poster, it just does not make any sense whatsoever. I'm not the type to believe in something when there is no proof, I'm told to have faith. Have faith in what? Science has proven that the world has been around much longer than the book suggests- scientific fact will always persuade me more than the elusive concept of 'faith'.

I have never seen any proof of the existence of god. I've never seen him, never heard him, never felt him and what religious people describe as "miracles" and "acts of God" have other explanations/causes, ones that seem much more logical to me and ones I believe to be true.

I just can't believe in something I see no sign of existing and when religious people try to prove the existence of God they only refer to the Bible/Qu'ran, which proves nothing to me because they were written by humans and I won't believe in something just because somebody tells me it exists, I want evidence.

I believe in evolution and I believe that when I die, that's simply the end of it. I don't believe in any form of an afterlife.

I don't believe in God because it doesn't make any sense AT ALL. And because I began to use my brain to search for some other things that made more sense.

I believe I can from nature, I was conceived by my parents and grown from cell-division. Where I'm going? Whereever I want to because I haven't got some religion telling what I should and shouldn't do, I have my own morals.

Science explains exactly where we came from....and we are going nowhere. Look around, I don't think God, if he existed, would allow the suffering that goes on in the world today. Most religious fanatics seem to be brainwashed. Check out this guy who posted before me.

yes. I believe God, u know you cannot see air but you can realise the same way God also there, He is almighty, and He created all of us. He has done so many amazing things in my life. mostly Love is God yes I am differ from other religious thinkers, if you love or give help to your fellow man or poor child you can see God through their smile. we came from empty handed all we have are gain, we have to give somebody something. but you know you are also a God if you realise the otherperson tears and hunger. yes He shines from mother's love.we are created his own image. yes even doctors also say after their attempts to save patients God 's will only save him/her. He is there and rule us like an air, we should believe. The science cannot find the answer what will happen after our death and where our spirit will go, can u find. no. so Almighty is there you can give any name.
