Hi Sarah!! :o) I appreciate how you feel. An adult choosing NOT to wear a seat belt [for instance] is one thing. An adult choosing on behalf of a child not to secure that child in a booster seat - is another. Still... even in Canada [which as lots of laws regarding child safety] there are people who hold their babies in their ARMS while in a car. What irks me is that every time I see something like that - I think to myself, "I care more about that kid than YOU do!!" Craig!! :o)

Maybe they plan to find another source for the booster seat. My child's safety is definatly more important than money, but I also can't afford to buy everything new. We have one new car seat, that changes into a booster when he's ready, but we have that because it was a gift. Our other car seat was purchased at a yard sale, which is where I plan to get a booster seat for my husband's car when the time comes. It's best not to presume they will not follow the law. As for those who won't follow the law, I think it is difficult for people to accept change. Many parents today did not ride in car seats even as infants, so the idea of putting an older child in a booster seems ridiculous to them. If they were safe (which they weren't), why aren't their kids? (That's their thought process.)

Some people just havnt got any money!
What if your child is only an inch under the four and a half foot?
What about taxis then?
Cant I get a taxi with my daughter cos it hasnt got a booster?
Of cousrse child safety is more important than money, but the govt should subsidise these things if they really think they are so important.
I have a booster for my child anyway because it has been the law in France for years, but untill those questions are answered then judgements cant be made.
Who the heck are you to judge others anyway?

When I drop my son off at nursery I see parents bringing their 3 & 4 year olds to nursery in the front seat of the car with only a seat belt. I cant believe how irresponsible some parent can be. This car seat law is long overdue.

I agree, I have a 7 year olds and he needs a new booster and I will buy one.
I think the police should come down hard on the people who choose to ignore this law.
Booster seat you can buy for under a £10.

a booster seat costs £10 - £15, that's nothing compared to your child's safety. Or if these parents aren't interested in the safety of their children, then maybe they should look at it like this - if they don't get one and get caught they are looking at a £500 fine!!

what is the law on seats? im a little behind i think...although my son is almost four and has a booster seat with a back on it if that makes sense and an integral harness...he'll be in that until hes at least 6-7 then will just have the booster seat til hes 11.

I CAN believe parents won't pay for booster seats, Law or not. When I'm out driving everyday I see all kinds. Mums holding Babies and small children on their laps in the passenger seat, toddlers on the back seat with NO seat belts on standing up and looking out of the back window. Some days I want to get out of my car and knock on their windows and say "Hey... belt up!" They will learn from their mistakes and maybe even live to regret it. Lets hope not. Even I wear my seat belt when I'm a back seat passenger. I value my life and my children's!

They obviously don't value their childs life too much. There shouldn't need to be a law to tell people to make sure their kids are in a safety harness. Ive saw people driving with much younger children standing up in the back of the car. It is shocking.

I'm sure they'll be singing a different tune when they get slapped with the fine! They did that in Canada, but the price of boosters came down offering parents no excuse.
