great excuse for an extra round of sandwiches. I will try one square cut and one triangular... same filling to make it a fair test and then I'll get back to you.

Mmmm It will have to be 4 small triangles an 4 small squares...if not I could end up with rectangles... will they taste different? better make that 3 rounds.

Could it be that if you are just using an ordinary filling you will just square cut the bread - but if you are doing a special filling you will cut the bread as a triangle?

I can't imagine a square cut smoked salmon sandwich!

Still, a triangularly cut sausage and raw onion sandwich doesn't work - and they still taste great!

How did the Earl of Sandwich cut his?

I agree with you. Triangularly cut bread does taste better than Square (regular w/crust) bread because square bread or regular bread has crusts to make it taste bad and triangular bread taste better with no crusts.

It's true! It always tastes better with the crusts cut off, too. It must be something to do with the fact that more care and effort have gone into the presentation of your butty, rather than just slapping something between two slices of bread and cutting it in half.

Triangular sandwiches are easier to hold. With only three sides for the fillings to squeeze out of they are easier to eat so you don't get so messy as with a sandwich that is cut in half or into four squares. Because they look better and are easier to eat, your perception makes them tastier too.

Quite funny you saying that because my 9 year old son says the same.
The triangle represents energy so maybe you feel the energy from the triangular shaped bread...
Square represents time so realistically you have time being cut up into something energetic....

A little like nature really

It's all to do with the molecules in food. It's a well know scientific fact that when food molecules are split on an angle more "taste" enzymes are released. The optimum slice angle is believed to be around 49.8 degrees.

I'm not sure, but I definitely agree.

I think it's because a square sandwich reminds you of the poor kids at school who had a crap packed lunch.

A triangular sandwich, on the other hand, has associations with Marks & Spencer, wealth and posh, tasty stuff inside.

I absolutely agree! I have to say sandwiches always taste better to me when they're squashed flat but I think that's just me! Maybe it's coz the middle of a sandwich always tastes the best and a triangular sandwich has only three sides not four...?! :)

Triangles are just sexier than squares; I have often looked twice at an isosceles but always ignore a rhombus.
