I had a labrador and still have a springer spaniel, both terrified of thunder and lightning! The labrador would cower and shake with thunder but would watch fireworks and hear a gun go off all day long with no problems. The springer is terrified of everything. He has an excellent gundog pedigree but very early on in his training got scared by a gun and has been a wimp ever since. He is the friendliest cuddliest dog you could ever wish for though!

A lot of dogs are scared of thunder. My dog is a good weather forecaster. She hides in box hours before the storm even arrives.

My mom's dog was not afraid of thunder until after her first fourth of july and ever since then she gets very anxious when it storms. It has gotten so bad that the vet prescribed some "doggie xanax", so she will calm down and maybe even go to sleep. We usually find her in a closet.

I have a papillion who is terrified of thunder and fireworks (any loud noises). He shakes and paces back and forth. He will not let anyone hold him either.

I did explain this to the vet who gave me some pills to calm him down. I used them once or twice. I didn't really see a difference in his behavior until long after the storm. Then he was laid back and mellow. Needless to say I don't use them anymore.

I have a 50 pound dog and an 80 pound dog crawling all over me during storms. They absolutely hate them. My 50 pound Keeshond I used to have used to actually try to get between my back and the back of the sofa that I was leaning against and try to hide there, lol. You hafta remember, though, their hearing is at least 10 times more sensitive than ours so it sounds a lot worse to them than it does to us.

My dogs don`t have a problem with storms, but I have friends & neighbours who`s dogs have problems. It doesn`t seem to matter what their size is etc....I believe they are like us,,,some people are terrified, some of us luv a good thunderstorm....I know a woman who actually sits under her table until the storm has passed, she said that she has always been afraid....

yeah both of my pugs have a problem with stormy weather.....it is really bad if no one is home with them. My older on peed on the kitchen floor the other day when my husband and i were at work. i felt so bad for him. usually there is a little light in the house but the storm knocked out the power. so it was too dark...i felt bad for him

Our dogs generally aren't scared, unless it is really stormy. There is tea-cup chihuahua at the house and I have a Spitz/Pekingese mutt. They are pretty calm. They are supposed to be able to tell about bad weather and earthquakes though. :)

Chivas our Labrador goes nuts in a thunderstorm. We let him "hole-up" under a bed or or couch and one of would stay close to him. My wife give him a sedative when it seems as if the storm might carry on for the night or so. Same goes for New-year, Guy fox and Christmas with all the fireworks.
Our border collie and dachshund gets uneasy but a reassuring pat does it for them.
