Use www.tripadvisor.com to search ( but NOT to book ) they have the best reviews of which places are nice and which are dirty/seedy/rip-offs.

A search pulls up only FIVE hotels near LAX for less than $100 a night. They all have bad reviews. You'd be better off paying a bit more. I'd be careful some of them might be really crappy or in bad areas:
