Shopping at the night markets is the cheapest place you will ever shop in the world. I've never found duty free shops to be cheap. You're allowed to bring--I think four or eight hundred dollars worth of stuff back with you.
One night market is on Silom and Rama 4 every night and the other is on Rama 4 just so. of Lumpini Park.

apart from king duty free at the airport, there're no places where you can buy stuff without tax or duty. However, you can try shopping at cheap places in Bangkok like JJ Market or Pratunam. Stuff there are pretty cheap just like you buy em without tax.

For computer gear try Pantip plaza or IT plaza in the city,Huge selection and a bit cheaper than the airport. Also Singapore airport Duty free seems about the cheapest.

The Thai airport duty free shops are state controlled so, no, not really. You could look for bargains in the local markets around Patpong.

Sadly, thailand is not a place known for cheap duty-free shopping. You will be better off doing that in Hong Kong or Singapore.
Why not drop by?
