I'm only 14, but I'm worried that I might have male pattern baldness when I'm older. It runs through my dad's side of the family, but not my mum's, and I really want to know whether I've inherited it or not. I'm really worried, because my dad has terrible hair, and I don't want to end up like him.

If there aren't any ways of detecting male pattern baldness early, then please tell me when the symptoms start happening and how I can prevent male pattern baldness.

The balding gene is carried and passed on through the female parent. If all your mum's relatives have full heads of hair you most likely will not experience male pattern balding.

Even if you did, it is really rather a minor thing. Vanity? You can always shave your head and just be bald.. a great many people look good bald.

You can detect the male pattern baldness in my photograph. But don't worry much, with the progress in science, we are now able to transplant naturally growing hair.

You can't prevent it. My father's bald and so was most of his side of the family but I'm not losing any hair. You should look at your mothers side of the family as the men in her family is where it usually comes from.

It supposedly skips a generation on your dad's side , but I think I knew I was going to thin out by the time I found out there was not a Santa. So I had time to prepare. Trust me , whoever has the most hair in this world does not win. You will be fine whatever happens control what you can.

My dad and I both shave our heads. Hopefully by the time I get bald like he is, I won't know the difference.

I have been hearing how cod liver oil promotes hair growth. so try this experiment, rub cold liver oil on one leg and not the other and see if one leg develops more hair than the other. Let me know how your experiment turns out.
