What are the harsh rumors about the Navy! I already know all the benefits, and all the other information. What's the bad stuff?

I was in for 4 1/2 years. Boot camp was He11, and onboard ship there is very little privacy. But the places you see! The life experiences are worth all that and more. I only got out because I got pregger close to the end of my 1st tour, and my husband promised me that if I got out he'd do the 20. My advice though... stay away from sailor boys... they really are after just one thing (I got lucky)... stay out of the bars and go experience the *culture* and richness of other countries! When my girls are a bit older, we are going to sit down and have a family discussion, to decide whether or not I will go back in. 4 more years til that... Go for it. The good outweighs the bad, if *you* make the most of it!

The Navy is like all the other branches and no different. I went in when they had boot camp in San Diego, and spent 3 years, 11 months and two weeks in the canoe club.

I was a corpsman and was attached to the Marines. do I regret it, NO, cause I traveled around the world, saw places, done things I would have never been able to do otherwise.

The best advice, work hard, stay away from bars, and military romances dont last. go in for all the right reasons, like education, experiances, travel and self satisfaction of being able to do a job you have never done before.

Also, consider that what ever you train for and do, is there an opposite job in the civilian sector??? You have to think, " what will I do if or when I get out?"

Good Luck

Semper Fi (hey, old habits are hard to break and yes, I enjoyed working with the Corps.)

I did 5 years, 3 on a Destroyer and the last 2 on hovercraft. Great Lakes really wasn't so bad but try not to be there in the winter if you are not accustomed to Midwest cold. Choose your rate With care! Think about what that training will mean to the corporate world. And when you get to the ship; bring your own supply of TP and keep it safe and above all dry! It is a hard life but a good one-go for it.

I would hate to be on a ship for 6 months at a time. The physcial part about the whole thing is on you. Air Force has the easiest PT regimen.

If you are female, don't, you will be hard pressed to have any ones
respect. I think most females in the NAVY are treated like s_hit!
It is unfortunate, but that is the way it is. You WILL be treated like a second class citizen. I admit it has bee a while since I was in, but my pals (that are active duty)tell me it is not any different now that it was back then.
