I guess it comes down to the idea of...
Does salvation requires works or is salvation a gift from God, bestowed upon believers.
Holy living and repentance is important of course, -but whats the highest trump card in the deck, works or "the gift".

There are two kinds of judgement according to the Bible. The first salvation is the one where you're saved and baptized, that will ensure your place in the eternal Kingdom of God. But you also need the holy living everyday, just like apostle Paul did, to "run the race", to be an overcomer. By being an overcomer, when the Lord comes back the second time and judges the believers, those who have overcame will be in the 1000 years Kingdom reigning with God, and those Christians who didn't become overcomers will go into the 1000 years of darkness. At the end of the 1000 years, there will be a war between God and Satan for the final time, and after that all the believers will enter into the eternal Kingdom of God.

Similarly , once damned , forever damned ? I've always wondered how this could be , under a Merciful God ! Won't this leave men with no incentive for being good ?
This is where the Hindu philosophy of many births , makes more sense . There , you are born again to enjoy the fruits of both good as well as bad , 'karma' ( actions ) , and freedom from this eternal cycle of births and deaths is to be sought , as the Soul's only Salvation .
Also , this theory explains the inequalities of birth -- why some are born into affluent / good/ caring families , while others are born to be abandoned , with congenital defects , etc.
Thus , we are left with some Hope , at least .

Making the effort to live a good and moral life is the way we honor God. Not the way we got saved. Not making the effort or leading an innocent to sin, is a rejection of the salvation that always exists.

Don't know but I'm a Buddhist so have different view. No one could save you even God for what you did. Could you tell God to give me an apple if I planted the orange tree? if you could I would cut my head off for you.
Holy is something that is out of the salvation. they're not like we humans. we do need salvation because we have wrong doings....

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Jesus is talking about the people who will be saved. You can't just have the faith of Jesus and not keep the commandments of God, or your religion is untrue.
Yes it is impossible to keep the commandments for men, But Christ kept them, and if you really search for him in his word, and especially in prayer, he will help you keep them.
Do you really believe God will allow sin back into heaven after throwing Lucifer out ? God did say affliction will not rise up again
Read the first chapter of Nahum
Nah 1:9 What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

In Islam, a person is guaranteed paradise if they recite "There is no god except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah"... however, a person may be thrown into hellfire for thousands or millions of years based on how they lived their life (sinfully) and eventually be removed from hell and put into heaven because of their faith in this testimony. So, yes, holy living is a requirement.

Once saved it is not a requirement for entrance into heaven but it is a requirement for a happy, fulfilling life.
There are few so miserable as a Christian outside of the will of God.

In Revelation 3 and 3, Jesus counsels the Christian churches to repent or else he will remove their lampstand.
So apparently they started their Christians life, and in the terms of many became 'once saved'..but only those faithful till death receive approval for life.

this is what i was told when i was a kid. once you are saved, you are saved - because that was what was promised. that means you can live a life of sin and still go to heaven. but a teacher once told me the difference can be compared to those who lived a holy life will go to heaven in nice clothes and those who lived in sin will arrive in rags. so you will somehow be a bit embarassed.
that was what i was told.
