My dog keeps getting spots...looks kinda like acne spots. At the moment he has a couple on top of his head and one on his side.
He's been treated for fleas and is not scratching or anything, they don't seem to bother him. Anyone got any ideas why he's getting them? Will take him to the vet this week but in the meantime, thought I'd ask on here.

No, he's not a dalmation...obviously! He's a staffordshire bull terrier. He does have pied markings but that's not what I'm talking about. He has raised spots that look like acne spots and are a bit scabby. Can't think of anything I've been doing differently lately so I've no idea what he could be allergic to.

He's 5 and a half years old...isn't that too old for hormone troubles?

Not changed his food recently or treats.

He did have a bath last week but used medicated dog shampoo...maybe that's it.

Will double check with the vet anyways.

Sounds like an allergy to me. Could be from food, from the flea medicine or whatever you might be using to bathe the dog.

One time my mom even changed our was detergent and the dog was allergic to it.

Most common solution is to figure out what has changed lately that is causing this.

I had a doberman when I was a teenager that got spots all over his chin, you don't say how old he is but dogs do go through a hormonal cycle kind of like human puberty when they first start to mature. The vet gave me some cream to put on the spots and it helped. He had very oily skin and I was allergic to this.
Check the type of shampoo you are using to wash the dog (you do bathe him periodically, don't you?). He may be reacting to this, or he may need a better quality soap more suited to his fur and skin. Dog shampoo with tea tree oil is available and is good for skin conditions.

Hi, My old staffie used to suffer with exema, it used to break out in little clusters all over her, vets give steroid injections but can work out expensive and another vet advised me against these and just to give her a cod liver oil capsule a day, it puts the oil back into the skin and she never suffered again, they are also good for joints so even if its not exema they wont do her any harm....lovely dog by the way x

well, sometimes a dog is named "Spot." Maybe that name has undergone some sort of generational curse? :)

Actually, it may be just an allergy. Sometimes they use their nails to itch, and if they are too sharp, they will break the skin, which may cause minor skin irritation. I don't know for sure what your dog is going through. Good luck at the vet!

My mum had the same problem with her dogs, it turned out she had changed their food and they were allergic to all the artificial preservatives in the new one, as soon as she put them back on their old diet within days they cleared up.
