OK, now, wait a minute, has anyone ever thought that maybe other couples were created at the same time as Adam & Eve or soon thereafter? Just because the Bible doesn't SAY it, that doesn't mean it didn't happen.(I mean if you happen to believe that sort of thing, I don't) I'm just SAYING, do really you think the Bible tells *every little thing* about the history of man? Don't you think it's possible that some key stories were simply not recorded or lost? Maybe there was no incest at all. Your thoughts please.

It's just another example of how the Bible falls flat on its face.

We have to remember that, to all intents and purposes, Eve was a clone of Adam. Not his sister. God took a component of Adam (the rib) and used it as the foundation for the creation of the second human. The only difference, then, between Adam and eve would have been their chromosomal makeup. Eve was the female version of Adam.

Since their DNA would have been identical, we can look at Adam and Eve as a metaphor for pure hermaphroditism.

The only problem is that all of their offspring would also have carried the same DNA. There is no way that genetic mutation or drift could have occurred among clones no matter how many generations pass without some other, external factor coming in to play.

If the biblical explanation about creation is true, all males would still look like Adam, all females would still look like eve, and both sexes would look very much like each other save for the differences caused by the chromosomes.

Spooky thought, eh?

Yes this rather disturbing thought has crossed my mind several times. You are right, it would have been incest if one assumes nothing else had happened besides what is in the Bible. I think it could have happened exactly that way, and through incest ceratinly the first beings would not have been intelligent ! IOn the other hand, f you read the Bible it talks how Cane had gone to a far away place (a city i believe) so there must have been others.
Also, some Christians are skeptics on the whole Adam and Eve story and assume it to be symbolic. It is really up to each Christian to decide for themselves and what they want to believe.

NO!!! There wasn't any other couples, the bible says it very clearly! Please, then what is it you believe, you sound very shaky, if you have no knowledge of this why discuss something in such a foolish way, maybe?

A lot of things happened, yes there was incest, and some of the things that took place, especially in the book of Genesis reveal how life was back in those days, ancient times, if you read the story of Noah and his son, something took place there, also that is why the flood came, because the giants wanted to have relationships with the angels and it was a huge mess, due to all the evil that was in the world, so God decided to destroy most of it and only preserved a couple of each and every specie, so everything would start in the right order all over again, (the best thing to do is read)

Knowledge is power!! There is a so much to read about it. And, by the way even if you read the entire book of Genesis, you wouldn't be able to understand it, since there are many unfolded truths and mysteries that really only bible scholars and not even them can explain, mysteries are revealed from above, whether you believe it or not.

For those who don't believe in the bible, I'd be very careful with nasty remarks as that is the word of God and it is Holy, you will be highly accountable for blaspheming the things of God, I wouldn't mess with that if I were you!

Read some of the things that happened to some famous & not so famous people who blasphemed against God

Adam and Eve were created perfect, no problems in their DNA etc, since then the human body has been breaking down. The offspring of Adam and Eve would not have had mutating DNA or the problems we experience today. The main reason why brothers and sisters cannot marry today is because of the genes and DNA, and the possibility of giving birth to children with a variety of illnesses, apart from the moral abhoration.

Actually Adam and Eves children did get married. Also Abraham was married to his 1/2 sister.

Today, it is highly recommended to not marry a close relative, because of problems for the children, in genetics.

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities. What is the law of the country you live in?

Genesis 3:20 After this Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she had to become the mother of everyone living.

1Corinthians 15:22 ..in Adam ALL are dying.

Marriage is not incest or fornication.

The Bible is simply mans interpretation of the events that happened at the creation of the world and so on. During Medieval times, There were very few people that could write. Therefore, most writings, and books were painstakingly written by a very small number of scribes. It is very possible that many original writings, letters and memoirs were not included in the present day bible, either because it would take too long, they were lost, or the scribe did not agree with something he was tasked to copy. All it takes is for a few people to leave out a few workds everytime the bible is copied and it takes on a completely different meaning. I believe that the present day bible is NOTHING like it was 500 years ago. Therefore, you should always take everything you read with a grain of salt. Never blindly believe anything just because you are told that it is right.

Like a lot of ideas that are laid down as 'rules' by religions, they often evolve from the common cultural practices of the time they were first voiced. Most cultures frown on marrying immediate relatives because of its effect on the gene pool.
It just became a rule of the new monotheism (Judaism) to give a religious confirmation to something people weren't really interested in doing anyway (except maybe in Arkansas!)

Let's also hope that no-one really believes that all of us were descended from two, and only two people, other than as part of a rather interesting, figurative fairy story.

Much of the Bible is taken up with stories that highlight certain moral or spiritual points which is in the custom of the day. The tree of the fruit, of the knowledge of good and evil. The eating of that fruit and its consequences are but some of many hundreds.Undoubtedly though, in my humble view, you should allow space to see things from the modern perspective while appreciating the points made.

It's an incest of course. Dude man don't you feel so nasty marrying your own sis/bro? Don't know much about the Bible but let me ask you how do you know that Adam and Eve or really bro and sis? and they really marry eacher other? what if I'm not a Christian? of course I am not gonna believe that my ancestor would descend from them. Prove to me scientifically then i'll believe.

Small Gene pool, if you kept doing this, then in 3 generations your kids will have 3 eyes, a nose like a broom handle and six thumbs on each of their four hands.
That is why Adam and Eve is just a guide on cause and effect, not a literal truism.
