ha ha when i served as a regular we did take the p.ss out of the T.A who we called weekend warriors, sas saturdays and sundays etc, but in those days the regular Army was big (1980,s) and TA were just playing at soldier,, but since the defence cuts and the culling of many regiments the TA is now a serious part of the UK defence force, they get the same training, pay etc and do their share of the dirty stuff.. so for all you knockers of the TA bugger off

It's what is called sod's law! Whatever the force, albeit military, police, firemen etc all their reservists or whatever are always regarded as part time and or various other demeaning slights etc as indeed the point have been merited here in no uncertain terms. However, in time of conflict or whatever the events, military or otherwise, the TA men and women & others rarely if ever fail to respond.

The Second World War wasn't fought and won by Britains standing professional services! It was won in conjunction with the HE's i.e. (Hostiles Only) as indeed were all the united Allied countries serving / involved therein. So was the Falklands, so was the Gulf, so were all other latent punch ups since then.

It's time this paramount ingratitude to all reservists, whatever their calling, was well and truly laid to rest

Weekend warriors!!!!!!!!! no just joking I was in the Paras and the SAS for 10 years I did 2 years on reserve with the TA in Oldham I found little difference, except for the pay. My Mrs was a Captain in the TA and she got called up for Op Telic. It didn't make any difference when the sh** it the fan you all bleed just the same. My Grandad was in the TA and he got sent to Gallipoli. I don't think I would care if you were reg or TA if you can do the job.

I think the Regular British Army see the Territorials as bunch of well meaning amateurs.

Unlike the USA the British Army tends to mix in its Reserve Troops (Territorials) with its regular troops this ensures they have enough troops and the experience of the regular troops aids the reserve troops.

If your Battalion is short of soldiers, it just means you will have more duties and more to carry, so when its bolstered by reserves your quiet happy, as long as they are not fat puddings!

The TA currently provide a huge amount of personnel to the Regular Army, specially Professional Types such as Surgeons, Nurses, linguists, who are full time civi's. Their expertise is much needed.

So in all TA is grand just don't F**k Up!

Regular Army is a fighting force.Territorial Army,in many coutries is not a fight force. It is mainly concerned with supplying information to the Govt and act as a support force in case of external aggression or internal unrest.Territorial Army is not the Real Army in many countries.I donot know the position in your country.

They look at the them as kids with guns because the regulars do their job full time while the Territorial army do it part time but they still get paid the same

"the territorials are more ground troops wqho don't really do much. "

You really think that the territorials don't do anything???

Please read up on what the TA have to go through !!!

It aint a holiday when they get called over to Iraq as cannon fodder !!!

the territorials are the force that usually get sent into action ahead of the regs, the term cannon fodder is about right. this is because they recieve the same training but are easily replaced whereas the regs are not, this prevents the main forces suffering heavy losses when it is not necessary.

Terries are essential ,the problem lies with a downsized military and an up graded mod more pen pushers less shooters

Don't put your self down hon, you all do your part. I'm sure if you are called upon you will be up there with regulars. I suppose they view the terrorists as the enemy, as we all do.
