The reason I ask this question is that there seem to be no trace of the Lord commanding Christians( Old testament believers are not Christians) to pay tithes in the since the death Christ...

I just want clarification, I could be wrong.

We must remember that the New Covenant actually started when Jesus Christ died therefore for us to use scriptures like:

Mat 23:23 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others"... would be wrong. Paul in Hebrews talks of tithes being received by a certain high priest who does not a genealogy, but there is no trace of God commanding CHRISTIANS to pay tithes.

Now others use Malachi 3 to say that those who do not pay tithes are cursed...but in the New Testament Paul says that "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law". The Law required tithes.

Correction, all you non-Christians should NOT think that I am saying "We should not give in church(offering). Offering is different from tithes.

The New Covenant tells of offering...so we must still give offering. Blessed is the hand that gives than the hand that receives.

HiKendal

My motive is not to escape the responsibility to give in

church...My motive is to preach the truth to people and never

manipulate them through men's thoughts of the bible instead of

the Lord's commandments.

The Holy Spirit works with the truth and the Word of God. If

God never commanded Christians to pay tithes, let the church

NOT be afraid to preach that truth...God does not need money to

build His church, He is able to build it whether people pay

tithes or not.

Christians do not keep the Sabbath because Christ has redeemed

us from the curse of the Law, now the law includes paying

tithes. The fact that you received Christ, you have fulfilled

the law.

The only thing that we see Christians in the book of Acts do,

is to give (Acts 2)(Offering), but never paying of tithes.

This issue reminds me of the popular saying by Children of God

that 'God never allowed slavery"...this is not true!We should

be TRUTHFUL.

Tithing is in fact a part of creation even from the Garden before
the fall. The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was Adam's
Tithe but he did not follow through.

Abram tithed to Melchizedek. Hbr 7:2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Hbr 7:8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he [receiveth them], of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

The bottom line is that tithing was in existence way before
God gave us the Ten Commandments and the various OT laws.
The reason we do not have to keep the Sabbath, I believe is
because this commandment is not reinstated in the NT epistles. Check it out.

I Corinthians 13;8a, Love never fails!!!!!

I do not believe tithing is a requisite to salvation, however if
you do not tithe you are still robbing God.

Not to discourage you, but disregarding the Old testament is blasphemy.

The OT predicted Jesus, and many things from it point and show the character of Jesus.

We should pay tithes, or the church would fail. In Acts we are told to give everything that we don't need (save food clothing etc).

If Jesus nailed the law to the cross, i may as well lie cheat and steal and still have Jesus and goto Heaven. No. Sin will not rise up again, God can't make us sinless alone, we have to let him. Do you think he will let willful sinners into Heaven? No.

"Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law" The curse of the law is death friend, Jesus has saved us from death, not keeping the law.

Whoever is teaching you to throw out the law does not have Jesus, because sin is transgression of the law. Read James, Hebrews etc on what they say about sin. (also 1 john 3:4)

Revelation tells us those who will be saved (the saints) obey God's commandments (Rev 14:12). My friend you have been taught doctrines of devil's, throwing out the commandments of God. The new covenant is written on our hearts, yet so was the old covenant.

What Jesus nailed to the cross was the ceromonies and sacrifices. Jesus has given the final and only sacrifice, himself.

Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

look up ordinances friend, it does not say the law of God which was written in stone by the way. From the root word dogma which means: a law (civil, ceremonial or ecclesiastical): - decree, ordinance.

Jesus also said: "Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. " (Mat 5:19 )

Christian laws are actually based in the old testament. Jesus was a Jew, not a Christian, he led his followers to live the laws which he lived by, which where old testament laws. Tithing is not giving to your church necasarilly, but it can be giving to a charitable faith based organization that promotes the word of God. In order to spread the message, in today's world, many people or organizations need funding because they are not in the business of profit. So if your duty as a born-again Christian is to spread the word of Christ, then tithing is required, because you are assisting others in spreading the word, and by doing so, in a sense, you are spreading the word too.

You have misunderstood the term "to tithe mint and cummin etc. (Mat. 23:23)"In the English used at the time this translation was made the phrase meant "to be conspicuously scrupulous in minutiae while neglecting important matters of duty" - in other words a hypocrite. With regard to the paying of tithes to any religious group it is a personal matter. All these groups are money grabbing parasites and will use any means available to claw money out of their gullible followers.

If you believe that He gave you a gift to make that money, then yes. I'm a Christian woman, and I believe that it's all His anyway; so, the least I can do is give Him the little 10% He asks for to build His kingdom. Remember, that is yet another seed you have planted in pleasing the Lord. I couldn't think of any reason why a wouldn't want to since He loved me first. God Bless! ; )

Malachi 4:4 Remember, you people the law of Moses my servant with which I commanded him in Horeb concerning all Israel, even regulations and judicial decisions.

This tells me that the principals of all the Jews are a reflection of how sacred service to God should be carried out.

Jesus only gave us 2 basic commands, to love God with our whole heart, mind soul and strength..and to love our neighbor as ourselves.

I have heard many testimonies of people who do tithe, how God blesses their businesses and finances.

So SHOULD we tithe? It is definitely true that we should ....NOT withhold from God all that we owe him.

You go to church, the church needs money to operate. You don't give the church any money, it fails to operate. Holy as it is, the church still needs to pay the water bill - or the water gets cut off. Pay your tithe, and be thankful the Lord gave you a place to pay it. Amen.

Of course not... the faithful should pray for money to be granted to them by God.

"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." --Mark 11:24

There's no need for anyone to donate money to the church, God shall provide it. You _do_ believe in God, what's written in the Bible, and the power of prayer, don't you?

Most of them say they do but they don't.They use such things as 'take home' or 'net pay' to try to minimize the amount they have to give & still pretend like they are tithing.
