Yes. In fact, it's the honrable thing to do after devoting a lifetime to working on jobs, and having no adequate pension to take care of you in later years.
Don't feel embarassed waiting at the checkout with several dozen cans of cat food.
It wasn't your fault.
While you are eating the cat food, some fat corporate executive is eating caviar.
Not much difference between them.

A few years ago, we knew a woman famous for her homemade party pies, and (fortunately I don't eat them) it was only after quite a while that we discovered she used cat and dog food in them.The only thing she added was onion and salt and pepper.
She didn't even use top quality, just the no name type brands.
So the taste must have been reasonably OK.....
but its strange, she wasn't encouraged to bring them to parties again after that, and no-one ate anything she prepared from then on..VBG.

it is safe for the processing of the canned food is very sterile.. but hey why do you need to eat cat food....
still it is safe

Only if you are a cat or a dog. It's made from body parts that are not fit for human consumption. I must admit it does smell delicious. Why do they not make mouse flavoured catfood, I wonder ?

Not really. Cat food is made with scraps of meat that really aren't fit for human consumption.

Well, in UK all animal (pet) food is suppossed to be safe for human consumption, but would you really want to eat it.
