You are suffering from what is called "Post herpetic neuralgia".. The nerve along which the infection first appeared causes radiating pain.It disappears spontaneously over a period of time without any treatment. Normal analgesics like Paracetamol or Brufen are enough. A mild sedation like Alprozalom 5mg one hour before bed is good.

I had Shingles for the first time a few weeks ago. I am normally in good health and haven't had any other health challenges before, so it came as a surprise.

Shingles is probably the most painful thing I have ever encountered. I went to the doctor, and he gave me some prescription drugs to take that was suposed to help, but didn't.

My wife found the Fast Shingles Cure ebook online and bought it for me, I am very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in my life. We followed the book, did what it said, and it delivered what it promised. Finally my Shingles rash is over... I feel truly blessed and thankful.

Shingles is caused by the herpes zoster virus - the same virus that causes Chicken Pox. Once you are infected you cannot get rid of it becuase it stays along the nerves pathway. Every now and then it will flare up not as Chicken Pox but as shingles. When that happen it moves along the nerves pathway causing pain. It usually resolves itself after about 10 days or so. By itself it is not fatal but because it causes great discomfort to patient the patient consitution may be compromised as a result of lack of sleep etc... . There are several treatment that can help alleviate the suffering but the only effective treatment (and that only partially) is Zovirax (generic name: Acyclovir). Treatment both with its cream and tablets need to be started as early as possible-preferably within the first 24-48 hours of symptoms. There are some evidence that the Chicken Pox vaccination may prevent the outbreak of shingles as well. any case it does lessen its impact.

Yes you are correct. Unfortunately Shingles can cause pain and itching for a long time after the sores have left. There is nothing you can do about it other than some Tylenol or ibuprofen for the pain. It is from the same virus that causes chicken pox. So if there are any children around that have the chicken pox stay away from them until it is over the contagious stage.
