I have found in this situation to say "That is unacceptable" in a loud voice. It gets the point across without being violent and embarrasses him in front of those near. He should stop immediately. Embarrassing him and making him tuck tail and run is better than a violent confrontation. Just make sure you say it in a strong voice.

Slap him. Then say don't even think about it again. If he persists, kick him where it counts or get one of your guy friends to talk to him.
