IF you managed to make in onto the Australian mainland - and we spend half our defence budget ensuring that the Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force always have the best detection systems available, constant patrols etc, plus the army roaming the northern deserts and bushlands, then If you made it that far, you would be detained in a detention centre in the desert or outback somewhere. These are well away from any civilised society, so that even if you escaped from it, your chances of arriving in a populated area before you died of dehydration would be slim. There you would be kept for 2-3 years whilst our immigration department, at their leisure, decided upon your staus as a genuine refugee. Then you would be deported. The most likely outcome, would be you would be caught trying to get in, and then immigration are allowed to keep you off shore in even worse conditions on a remote island in the Pacific or Indian ocean. The Australian government is permitted to treat refugees this way, becuase even though we are a signatory to the International charter on refugees, said UN charter states that all refugees must make a reasonable effort to arrive at the NEAREST safe haven, not wherever they think they would LIKE to go to. That means unless you are Indonesian (doubtful) or Kiwi (likely - besides, we let them in freely anyway) then you have to pass through dozens of SAFE havens before you can get to Australia......
Message to people wanting to get to Australia - It is mostly desert. It is the driest continent on Earth. The desert is getting bigger, our water supplies are dwindly - our population growth is not sustainable.....

Well, you'd be given decent housing and stuff until the ministry of immigration can decide what to do with you (could be months).
I'd imagine that some kind of monetary wage is in order for humanitarian reason also.
We are currently accepting Chechnyan freedom fighters, also, but legally (as we should, poor sods).

You would be deported from the UK. Besides jobs are scarce here too. Try France or Germany!

You will get amnesty and free government handouts. You might as well skip the line and join the crowd, everyone's doing it.
