-in the UK. Is there a way of checking if someone is going to get married. I only know the woman's name and the County they are from?

Ask a mutual friend or family member who knows you both. They could tell you.
Get her phone number from directory assistance and call her. If she is getting married, I'm sure she will be more than happy to mention it in the first few minutes of the conversation without you having to ask. If she doesn't bring it up, then she's probably not getting married anytime soon.
You could also call the local county clerk, and ask if a Miss *insert name* has filed for a marriage license. If they don't have the information, they may be able to direct you to who to call for the legal documentation. I'm not 100% sure about UK laws, but in most states in the US you are required to get the license X number of days before the wedding.
