As a Muslim, I feel much love and respect for my Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Native American, Hindu and general spiritual but non-committed to any religious friends. We've discussed much, drank coffee or tea together and at one time smoked much pot together. We've never judged, hated or disrespected each other. In fact we're always fascinated and intrigued with each other's point of view. So when I read Muslims are all about hate... I'm floored!!! I just don't get where that person is coming from.

I understand with the war on terror that some people need to label all that belong to a certain group as the enemy... but it's never true. What about Romeo and Juliet? that was a story about people who are supposed to be enemies actually falling in love. I think Shakespeare was a very wise man for writing this play. I feel a lot of our younger generation from opposite faiths will fall in love and marry, much to the chagrin of their bias parents. Just my thoughts...

sree - i understand and respect your question... i was raised in America believing in peace and love among all humanity. That is the Islam I was taught. I've never, not for a second, understood the hate and violance the "islamists" in terrorist groups they propagate amd use Islam to justify it. I really, to this day, know with full clarity that Islam does not teach or propogate violence. That is why, like the person after you wrote, our work is cut out for us.

We can understand your frustration, that you want to take people as they are and ask only that people treat you the same. We can understand that you don't want to be lumped with Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, Jinjaweed and the others who want to kill Christians and other non-Muslims in the name of Islam. The world saw storms of protest over a silly, poorly drawn cartoon that appeared in an obscure Danish newspaper and a contest to produce the best holocaust-denying cartoons in Iran. Where are the protests over the actions of the murderers? Even in the US, the Muslim leadership, which has freedom of speech and assembly, does not protest the acts taken by the fascists in the name of Islam. So don't say you're floored and you don't understand. You may not be about hate, but as long as the image of those planes ramming into the World Trade Center towers remains, don't say you're floored or you don't understand when people think that Muslims want them dead. I am not criticizing your apparent sincerity as a person willing to accept all people as equals, but if you are sincere about building spiritual bridges, you had better understand that you have got your work cut out for you.

How can you say Muslim & Islam don't love?

Nobody I know believes all Muslims do not love, but you have to admit that those who take the book literally use it to support murdering. And because they are the more violent ones they intimidate the more peaceful ones into subjection with the constant fear of death or maiming... would you call that love?

And I guess since their main book, the Koran, teaches to murder the Christian and the Jew, that would be one reason to say that there is a bit of a lack of love. And another is that if someone wants to leave the religion they will be murdered. And maybe because they teach their young from an early age the same...

The last time I checked, murder was not considered love.
As a matter of fact, one of the ten commandments that Moses gave the world stated, "Thou shalt NOT murder"

Here are passages from the Holy Bible which speak on the subject better than I can....

If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? (1John 4:20)

In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever does not do righteousness is not of God, neither he that loves not his brother. (1John 3:10)

Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer: and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. (1John 3:15)

He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (1John 3:8)

Only the most foolish stereotype people by any given identifier. The words Islam and Muslim derive from the word Salaam, PEACE. Tell this to many fundamentalists and they will kill you though. Those people are about as much Muslims as the KKK are Christians.

People who love others do not do so as a result of thier religion, they do so as a result of their teachings growing up. I follow no religioin per se, yet find it deplorable what many humans do to one another.

I know muslims are good and love their parents and friends, however they like quran even more. I am not against islam but I heard that quran says to kill khafir ( non-believers). Moreover I saw many muslims support terrorist activites against other religions with some excuse like islamic faith is under attack.

Finally I want to ask you questions, How can you pose this question when most terrorists on the globe are islamic? and How do you expect us to accept you ?

i think that distrust, resentment and hatred of islam is growing in the US not decreasing. as a christian, the general impression we get is that muslim terrorists seem to be directly connected to mosques and there seems to be little outcry from the muslim communities condemning terrorism. it really doesnt matter what the tenets of islam are, if americans feel that muslims are targeting them for terror attacks, muslims will be treated like enemies. the only way to change this course is for islam to root and remove the dangerous radicals.

~DUde,
Key word "pot"
anyone will love anyone over a nice bowl of pot. Regardless, i'm out here in Iraq and I don't hate Muslims. I know that just like in every religion and ethnic group, there are the ******* and the decent humans. Don;t stress over it. Most of us weren't sheltered children raised in a barn. So we have learned to be open minded and get to know people before judging them.

Yes there are people who paint everyone with the same brush. You have to understand that the ones who do that kind of stuff are doing it generally because they haven't tried to look at things from a different perspective, or they haven't associated with differing groups to widen their understanding. One can only hope that as time goes by, the number of people like this dwindle.

I certainly won't judge you, even though I just judged a catholic. When I was in high school, I had a friend that was Muslim. We were good friends, we spoke of a variety of moral aspects. She taught me her religion and I taught her mine. You would be surprised by the commonalities.
