Comparing science and religion is like comparing apples to oranges. They're different but they're similar. Science is the pursuit of knowledge through observation and testing. Religion is dependent upon faith. Do you realize that most of what you believe to be fact about the world around you is based on what others, namely scientists, have told you?! And you accept it on faith, just like those who belong to a religion believe what their religious leaders tell them. Have you ever seen a germ personally? Have you ever seen a galaxy firsthand? We all simply accept what is explained to us because we believe in the authoritativeness of science. None of us has firsthand experience with most of what we believe yet we live our lives based on a vast set of assumptions, much like religious people do. And look at how completely and profoundly science and technology influences and controls our lives. Science and religion may be technically different by definition but their impact on human consciousness is similar.

Science has nothing to do with religion. It does not function in the same way. Science is an area of study that relies on fact to prove or disprove theories. When that is done new theories are created as a result.

Theology is a social science like Sociology & Psychology. It is part of the whole societal structure and relies on faith rather than fact. Religion is something that one may or maynot discard at their will.

No, I do not blieve. Due to the dynamic nature of science it always keeps it self refining through the time and some times it even takes U-turns to what it proved earlier. Science is a reality and no one can deny its wonders but is not perfact . The religion shall not be compared with science. Religion is eternal and perfect for ever. Religion gives knowledge of unseen and proves un provable in "time and space" domains of science. Briefly , following religion is science.

I believe that science when it is used to make something, or prove something, etc... is ALWAYS backed up by experiments that have been repeated over and over and all have the same result. Science is based on facts than can be backed up, and cross referenced and people who are skeptical, if they chose to, there will always be plenty of literature and/or physical experiments that are backed up by solid references, etc....

Religion, no matter what it is, is something that has been found written in ancient times, by people who are long dead. There is no proof what so ever that anything found in these books (Bible, Qaran(sp?), etc,,,) is based on anything more than the imaginations of the authors of them. How do we know that the storeis found within are no more than ledgends passed down over the generations, childrens bedtime stories, or perhaps the people who whote those books belived what they wrote. Maybe the stuff in those books is absolutely true and factual.

The point being, that religious books and teachings, etc.. have nothing to back them up. No way to prove their basis in fact at all, one way or the other. No sources, no nothing.

So, I don't understand how so many people can even try to compare science with religion. They are so different.

Religion is the set of unfounded beliefs in a supernatural being concerning the cause and nature of the universe...

Science is a branch of KNOWLEDGE or study dealing with a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws...

Only an idiot would think science is a religion...

Science is knowledge. We know something. So we are scientists. Someone knows everything. He is God.Omniscient is All knowing. Scienta is Latin for science. When little knowing people discuss and try to explain The All Knowing, it is called religion.

Scientists - thay are like detectives , that's what Richard Dawkins said.

Science is not a religion, its the human organization for protecting humans and feature.

we belive in science , because it show us facts. Facts which is mor real than fiction bibal or Quran.
But i think the 5 sences cannot give the exact facts. In this world the human facts are not the only facts. So you go deep ..deeeep ... very very deeeeeppp
you will end up in meditating.

I believe that religion is a branch of science. I think god is a theory proposed by our ancestors, which would be proved by science in the future. Like many theories in science which were later proved by scientists themselves.

hi
I think the matter is so:-
1_human being starts with his 5 senses
2_then he begins to think practically
3_then thinks theoritacaly
4_comes the last stage, which is religion, but the end point
can be reached in so many ways, one of them is this
so scince can lead to religion if there is intention to do
this is true for a single person or the whole humanity
after practical scince in middle ages(dark ages for europe
comes theoritical scince as we know now
but there are some who don't want to go so far ,it is easier
for them to stop than to move, those who were against
scince in middle ages are against religion now
by the way we talk about RELIGION ,while we think that
the only TYPE of religion is ours !!
forgetting that there are so many religions ,they totally
differ from ours!
this acts as a double edge weapon, prevents us of
understanding others,& vice versa.I think it is one source
of our dilemma at least now!

I don't think so. Religion relies on faith in the supernatural, and science seeks proof of the natural.
