I enjoy both, as long as it's good art.

And no, not just anyone can do photography. That would mean every photographer is as good as Georgia Okeefe, Ansel Adams or Ed Weston. That's ridiculous.

Those who say photography can be done by anyone either lacks understanding about photography, about art, or both.

Well, I think the obvious would be a painting. But either can be art. But I think you have to have talent and a certain amount of skill to paint certain things, but anyone can take a picture. Some photos can be be 'good' by being 'bad', and I think that's art.
I like painting better, but for spot on accuracy and lots of it, you can't beat a photo! :)

I'm a painter, but I own an equal number of art photograpy and art photography books as I do paintings (by artists other than myself) and books on the subject.

If it moves you - it's art.

I enjoy looking at both paintings and photographic prints. Neither have "more arts" in it in my opinion although your question is worded strangly. If you are asking which of the two we repect more as an artform, I'd answer by saying I repect them both equally. I have studying both and repect my peers in both artforms.
