People are obviously out to discredit Islam with false information, lies, misquoted verses and misrepresented facts. Do you believe it when you read it, or are you intelligent enough to realize by the tone of the question that this person is anti-Islam/Muslim and therefore a hater.

No rational person thinks that all muslims are terrorists who are determined to kill all infidels and destroy western culture as we know it.

But, as you can see, there are a lot of irrational people around.

For those (prince uranus) who say that all they need know about Islam is 911, please read this: Islam is not 911. 911 was a terrorist attack, which has NOTHING to do with Islam. That is like saying the KKK lynchings represent Christianity. Not only is this a lie, but the KKK members aren't even Christians, despite what they say. So let's get it clear, peoplez.... to judge something, learn everything about it first. Otherwise, you make a fool of yourself. Capisce?

As for the quote from the Qur'an: One must consider the that this came from. When people misconstrew the Bible, and Christians say, "Oh wait, you have to read what's before and after that excerpt to really understand what the excerpt is saying" then isn't it fair to say the same of a Qur'anic excerpt? I'd say so. Everything has its context.

For 13 yrs the early Muslims were persecuted by the Meccans, which consisted of Pagans, Christians, and Jews. The Muslims did not fight back, yet they were tortured, incarcerated, robbed, raped, killed, etc. They were persecuted in every way. Finally, after God gave them permission to defend themselves, was when they DEFENDED themselves. They DID NOT start wars, but if attacked, they were to kill. Of course they were to kill, otherwise they'd be killed, duhhh. It's called COMBAT. That's what the excerpt is about, how to fight in combat. Good rule of thumb: never take anything out of context.

To answer your question: No, I do not believe negative propaganda about the Muslims. To learn about Islam, I don't rely upon tv news or The Times. I rely upon the Qur'an, Sunnah, Islamic web sites, and even visits to a mosque.

Someone said something I totally agree with: Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.

If you don't know about something, then don't make a judgement, lest you make an @ss of yourself. Agreed?

For 50 years the USA hated the Germans. Then for another 50 years, we were told to hate the Russians. For the next 50 years, we will have to hate the Muslims, I guess. You are right. We seldom are told the good things about Islam. I think the USA is set up so that there always has to be an enemy. That way the oil and defense companies can make profits. I do my best to sift through anything I hear from any source. But especially if it is negative and by seeming negative and having others believe it will benefit those behind the bad mouthing, I pretty much automatically discard it as BS, disinformation, propaganda, and it annoys me if it's on TV that that type of nonsensical spewing forth from some newscaster's mouth is even in my home at all.

If more people would not be so supseptible to the ever growing amount of propaganda, and start thinking for themselves about what they want for them and for their kids, rather than sitting back in front of the TV and taking in what the mainstream media is telling them that "the government" thinks is best for them, then automatically accepting it without question, well, maybe we would not be in the position we are in now.

The government that was originally formed to be public servants to the citizens, to do what the citizens want them to do, to protect the citizens, etc.. has now turned on the citizens, are totally abusing the power that the fools have unwittingly given them, and now that they have tasted so much power, wealth and greed, it will now be almost impossible to take it back from them. Very sad. (sad was an understatement, if I ever made one)

I don't believe in the nonsense that people publicize. The bombing of the world trade center was absolutely dreadful but the west has been dropping bombs on the middle East for years now with that said should we blame all Christians for that. Islam is a religion that calls for peace but we always have the few that murk the religion it is up to people to be informed and stop being victims of the one sided unbalanced media.

I think I'm smart enough to recognize what is false and what isn't, even if I don't know a whole lot about Islam.

I understand your frustration, however. Some people do the same thing with Christianity/Christians. There is a lot of generalizations and bashing going on. All you need is a few bad apples and it gives a bad name to everyone unfortunately.

Of course not. Those who discredit Muslims are maligning God's children. Jews, Christians and Muslims love and are loved by the same God. When we talk badly against each other wrongfully, we commit grave sins. Terrorists come in all forms, there are the ones who use violence to hurt others and there are the ones who say and write things to hurt others. These people can play this game with other people, but when it is time to face God, those who hurt his children by their acts or their words will have to face his judgment.

I admit, I don't know that much about Islam, but I do know what you are talking about. I think most of the time I am pretty good at sensing if someone has a biased viewpoint.

It is probably a good idea to come to a place like this and provide some balanced views. I know you probably have to brace yourself for a lot of hate -- I experience that myself when I defend my Catholic faith -- but I still think it is worthwhile to provide some information to contrast to the misinformation that is out there.

i grow to be fairly youthful while it befell, yet I nevertheless remember 9/11. Muslims have been put in an rather undesirable gentle because of the fact of an rather undesirable element some individuals did, no longer because of the fact human beings needed them to be put in an rather undesirable gentle. I grew up in usa as a Muslim, and that i've got way too many non-Muslim buddies to declare that westerners are hell bent on making themselves hate Muslims. it is exceedingly secure to declare that individuals do no longer purely circulate around hating Muslims, aside from perhaps small cities interior the south, yet they hate each and everything, do no longer take it in my opinion. Yeah, it is probable the acts you pronounced. The states has a great style of religions, they are exceedingly accepting right here. i might think of it is much less perplexing to be Muslim in usa than say Christian in a greater often than not Muslim u . s .. And the unfavorable opinion isn't even THAT reliable. don't get me incorrect, it exists, yet Malcolm X, a frontrunner interior the Civil Rights circulation, (African-American's earning equality in case they do no longer learn that the place you're from) grow to be Muslim. He grow to be promoting violent methods, yet he replaced his suggestions because of the fact of seeing human beings of all races praying mutually in Saudi. it is a exceedingly lots properly-known certainty, and it places Muslims in a great gentle.

the very nature of the word propaganda implies some falsehood by definition or partial truth. to believe that without question is ,as you implied, unintelligent, howver the vast majority of us particularly within American culture believe what we are told without questioning or checking the sources of the information we recieve. so this is far from surprising. i am a christian and have had to correct other christians about the propaganda they spread and believe about islam/muslims because you can't really know what to believe about someone until you try and see things from their point of view;find a point at which you can begin to relate to them and deal on the basis of what is actually true. unquestioned acceptance of any propaganda of any sort good or bad in nature is simply consensual ignorance.

I love all people because the Lord died for all people. Jesus loves the Arab people too. I do not believe all Arab people are bad just because there are a few crackpots out there who want to blow up the world, but, I don't think the religion of Islam is the same as Christianity. Christians do worship a different God. They worship the God of Abraham and the God of the ancient Hebrew people. The God of never ending love who sent His son,Jesus, to pay the price for our sins so we would not have to. Christ would have never told someone to kill another person who does not agree with their religious beliefs.
