In Latin "Centum" means a hundred and "Pedis" means a foot.

Centipede means ‘hundred legged’ but not many centipedes actually have as many as this. Some have as few as 15 pairs, others have as many as 173 pairs, but most sorts have about 35 pairs.

A Hundred, centi means a hundred as in ,
1 meter = 100 cm
and 1 century in cricket = 100 runs.
1 century = 100 years.
milli = 10^3
centi = 10^2
deca = 10^1
kilo = 10^3

It depends. It should be somewhere around 100, because in Latin Cent = 100. Milli = 1000, so if that's your next question, ok. Although in real life it only looks like 100 legs, it could actually be as few as 45.

Despite their name, which stems from the Latin words 'centum' (meaning 'hundred') and 'ped' (meaning 'foot'), they normally have around half that number of legs, though it is possible to find centipedes with over 200 legs.

According to its name, 100. I'll have to look it up to see if that's the case, though. Pretty sure it isn't, but hang on...
Looked it up. It varies. Their bodies are divided into segments, with 2 legs per segment. They can have 15-173 segments.
