I am a Muslim and i take pride in praising my motherland and reciting a song / anthem about my country. But, dont ask me to sing a song that praises my country through the means of Hindu godess that are mentioned in "Vende Mataram"
Why do u force me to say " Thanks Durga for our mother land"
Will we be less patriotic if we
"Thanks allah for making me indian and giving me birth in this country"

No, never. It should not be made compulsory. Vande Mataram is a beautiful compostion about our motherland. It should not be contaminated with unwillingness. Those who love it and really wish to enjoy the lyrics and sing aloud are the only ones qualified to sing it. The people against the singing of Vande Mataram are doing great service to the great song. Else the song would be nothing short of being tread under feet and used as jingles. Did anyone wonder why the National Anthem was Stopped at the movie halls at the end of the movies? Utter disrespect. People just walked out as the anthem commenced. India needs more time to really understand nationalism and patriotism. Vande Mataram or even the National Anthem need not be sung to be disrespected. The day the people of our country realise the importance of being a part of India, irrespective of caste, creed or religion then the meaning of Vande Mataram will be understood by one and all.

Yes, absolutely! There should not any debate about it. If you dont want to sing Vande mataram, get out of India.
Everyone from political parties to religious groups to school principals seem to have an opinion on whether Vande Mataram should be sung compulsorily or be banned in schools and states.
While Muslim groups have raised a unanimous voice against the song, saying it has words/phrases that go against the tenets of Islam, the BJP on Monday added yet another twist to the tale when it made the singing of the song compulsory in all the states ruled by it.
While Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena will organise a mass recitation all over Maharashtra on September 7, the Jamaiti-Islami-Hind - a Muslim body in Rajasthan - will be opposing the singing of the patriotic song in its madrasas.
So, as Vande Mataram completes a century of being written with pride and sung with gusto, the question is whether it will face the music for being the national song and will it be reduced to a crass cacophony of political one-upmanship.

No,'vande mataram' should not be made compulsory in schools.
If someone does not want to sing it ,he should not be forced to do so.
Just by not singing 'vande mataram' does not mean that he does not like his country.
Unlike Hinduism, Islam is monotheistic religion,Muslims believe in only one god .
In the song 'Vande mataram', vandana is sung considering our country as a deity. It is similar to praying the nation. It is totally against ones religion.
Patriotism means loving the motherland by its individuals , not praying it.

Yes "Vande Matram" Should be made compulsory in schools. It is our national song. Every Indian should feel proud to sing it
By the way, after reading Sahil's answer above, I don't think for a handful of people we shouldn't take such a big step in the disrespect of our nation.
This is all politics............ Which is damaging our beautiful Country.

no harm in making vande mataram compulsary...we sing it with pride anyways....almost in every school this song is being sung and no body bothers about the religion they follow while singing it...and why shld they? afterall we sing only the first two stanzas which do not stand for any religion.....it's a song which instills pride in us...it was given to us by the people who contributed to our independence.....no religion shpould have any problem with it...actually discussing it is a waste of time..our country needs to pay attntion to other things which r of more importance and will help us progress further.

awareness is the answer and not the compulsion, merely reciting national song will not inject any patriotism unless the awareness is kindled in the mind. When elected politicians cheat and loot the country and its people the singing gimmicks will not help to strengthen love and respect for the nation in the young one. What we represent to the young generation is more important than teaching history of great heroes of the nation. Every one should know that we dont live in the past!

Y shud v place religion b4 our gr8 nation? b4 being Hindus, Muslims, Christians,......... v all r INDIANS!
It's our national song.V must respect it.& those who r raising objection r not only idiots, they deserve 2 b thrown out of our country as well.
Sahil, let me tell u that the name of Hindu Goddesses come in those stanzas which v don't sing. The last para v sing is "Sujalaam sufalaam............." Till that para only our country has been praised. The names appear in the para v don't know & don't sing. This problem was thought of b4 & those lines were aptly removed. It was accepted as the national song by Hindus & Muslims alike. U can read its Urdu translation which has been released(written by a Muslim himself) & then tell what is objectionable.Nothing at all. Those who r objecting it r trying 2 disturb our communal harmony by politicising the issue.
All Indians r 1. Let thr b communal harmony.
