If the child is an infant or fairly young, green is quite a common color of stools. Are you a new Daddy? Really it doesn't matter what age an individual is, the color of your stools is based on what you injest. Nothing to worry about----check yours out after eating tomatoes or corn. An infection is usually more about consistency than color.

Well, if the color green bothers you, paint the stool black. It's just sitting in the kid's room anyway.

Just kidding.

It means you may have introduced a new food to him/her. Don't worry about it unless it's a chronic problem.

The most common instance is after eating a good portion of licorice jellybeans. I kid you not. Had that problem the other week. That and with artifically-colored green ice pops.

Healthy people can have green poop if they eat a diet rich in leafy green vegetables, or if they consume large quantities of food coloring (in ice cream, cake frosting etc.). Green poop can also be caused by excess iron in the diet, from dietary supplements, for example. If the body does not absorb all the iron consumed, the iron may stain the poop green, the color of iron (II) salts. Or also foods that have a lot of food coloring in them.
