It has become a recent trend for people to "attack" those black females that choose to relax their hair. It is a personal choice on how you wear your hair who is to say one is better than the other?

On many levels you are right however I've been around the world and back and I've seen many "natural" black people that have no idea about their heritage and claim the fist up rightous I'm natural thing but at the same time are ashamed of themselves. My point is simply is there is a lot beneath the surface besides hair....

Again... there is more to being black than your hair. People choose to do what they do because it suits them. You can't take that and tell them they are being "less black" and "have a european influence" I could say if you wear makeup to change your appearance or lip gloss you are "less black" how about if you don't use lotion. All I'm saying is you judging people because they choose to relax their hair is the same thing as them judging you for not doing it.

I totally agree with you. Self-love and self-esteem comes from the inside; hair may or may not have anything to do with it.
I think that the creativity that blacks have displayed in hairstyles is not something that should be attacked. Whether one chooses to straighten or go natural it is a personal choice that should not be attacked by others.
Personally, I've always chosen my hairstyles based on ease and convenience; for me, it has nothing to do with black pride, I just don't like spending hours doing my hair.

The truth is hair is not the issue. The black people that "attack" may be seeing your hair straightening as self-hate. An unconscious way for you to run from yourself and try to be more white. Sometimes black beauty is covertly looked down upon. The wide nose, the lips, the hair etc... And to some straightening your hair is the same as agreeing that what you are is not right because it's not white, therefore, what we are is not enough. It's seen as a kind of treason. I think the only time you have to question a choice like that is if you're afraid of your black hair or if you're ashamed of it somehow. In my opinion the issue is not about hair. Hair is just one of the many symptoms of our deep need for self-knowledge. It can seem so small to people that don't understand it but small things can have deep meaning.

its not about attacking those who relax. its about somewhat figuring out why this has become so huge. im saying at the end of the day why go through hours of torture to change the way you are. we have nappy hair, thats it. why try and be like the majority and make your hair that way.why not embrace it instead of hiding it. Our peoples in Africa are doin it big without perms so why cant we. yeah maybe it is a preference but the true question is why is it a preference? it is because european features are predominent to be honest nowadays. im not saying that there is something wrong with a perm in general but it really isnt helping our cause. nowadays more and more people are beginning to insult our features but i cant even blame them or be mad at them because we dont even embrace it. here some of us are (not u in particular) insulting nappy hair and dark skin and even sometimes big lips and big butts, the other races minus well join in on the hate too. the minus well keep describing us as having nasty greasy hair.

Hair does not have to be straight to be beautiful. But if you want to relax your hair then so be it. The only reason anyone says anything about it, is b/c they wished they had your hair and/or looked as good as you. It's just jealous. Ignore them and keep doing what you do.

To me this hair issue is not complicated @ all! Whether we like it or not, whether we are aware of it or not, whether we acknowledge it or not, FACT REMAINS: black people straighten thier hair becoz of european influence. becoz we hav identity inferiority complexes. From a very young age i was taught by my parents to luv my africaness from my hair, right dwn to my toes. I would neva relax my hair, i would much rather go bald

attack? attack how?
why would someone disapprove of someone else for wanting to make their hair straight?
that's really lame..
it's your choice on how you want to wear your hair. don't listen to what everyone else thinks. especially when it's over something as little as a straightening job.

people need to realize that in order to for their hair to look nice they must relax it. people need to understand that nobody has control over their hair type no matter what. when people say something like that then just say at least i look good with this hair because if u had this hair u wouldn't look cute and u would not be able to pull this off.
