Mormons believe that around 500 BC a small group of people sailed to the Americas. A new testament of Jesus Christ was written (By Nephi and then many other authors as time passed). Eventually the gold plates that the testament was written on was to be burried by Moroni to be later recovered by Joseph Smith and translated
Some of their beliefs are that:
* Jesus came to the America's shortly after his ressurection.
* Jewish people settled in the Americas 500 BC.
* Joseph Smith was a prophet that translated the golden plates into the Book of Mormon.
* That the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints is the one true Church restored as Jesus Christ meant it to be.
* That after a person dies they will be in a spirit world to be reconditioned to go to heaven.
* There are three levels of heaven. The lowest is the Telestial, then the terrestrial, and finally where God dwells is the Celestrial.
* The only way to go to Hell (perdition) is by ultimately knowing that Jesus is your saviour and still denying him.
There are so many more to list. Christians are often outraged by Mormons and believe they are a bunch of gullible twits. I think that all theists are pretty Gullible and Christians do not have much room to make a mockery of other religions.

they believe a lot of what's in The Book of Mormon.
Supposedly, their founder, Joseph Smith, was visited by the angel Moroni---who gave him The Book of Mormon on golden tablets. Joe was supposed to read The Book of Mormon and copy it down on paper. When he did that, Moroni took the tablets back.
I'm not Mormon. Did this actually happen? I don't know. I find it a little convenient that Moroni 'took' the golden tablets back. Supposedly others saw the golden tablets before Moroni took them back.
That's about all I know. I'm sure if you'd google Mormon you'd find a website where you could find out more.
The Mormons are always offering a free copy of The Book of Mormon on late nite tv---if you request one they'll send it to you and then some Mormon missionaries will show up at your door. From all accounts--these are good kids, so don't be afraid of them.
Good luck in your search.

They have other canonized scriptures in addition to the Bible and they have both churches and temples... you go to the church on Sunday and every once in a while you perform a ritual at the temple... other than that, they are Christians who take the Bible very seriously.
You will hear many bad things about them but you hear alot of bad stuff about christians in general, not to mention Muslims, Jews, etc... take all of it with a grain of salt.
Their main belief (to me) is that we should each have a personal relationship with God and not depend on pastors, etc... to tell us what to do, think, or beleive... in other words, God is still talking (he didn't stop 2000 years ago) and we have but to listen.
I do have some criticism of the Mormon faith, but I have criticism of all faith, so... there you go. Hope I helped.
P.S. Stay away from any websites about Mormons (either for or against) or any other faith for that matter... ask either your pastor or their pastor or pray to God about it, but don't just accept the first thing people tell you.

The first two answers are wrong....you'll get many of them when you ask a question like yours. Mormons are Christians ( they believe in Jesus Christ). The biggest difference is that they believe that God and Jesus are separate beings (most Christians believe they are the not). They also believe in the Bible, and in a book called the Book of Mormon which is an account of the people of the America's and their rise and fall...and Christ's visiting them.

For starters, they believe that the Father (Adam), the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit are three separate, corporeal beings. They believe that devout Mormons (the men at least) can progress up through the divine ranks and eventually become gods themselves, creating their own worlds and begetting spiritual "children". They believe that after Jesus rose from the dead, he came to America to evangelize the 10 "lost tribes" of Israel (those exiled after the Northern Kingdom fell to Assyria) who had migrated there. They believe that people can be baptized, by proxy, after they are dead.
Yeah, kinda different.

Mormons are Christians. However, some of their beliefs take a different direction than those of historically "traditional" Christians.

the first answer is correct. also they would rather focus on the book of Mormon and less on the bible. they claim that their book is the new doctrine of Jesus given to Joseph smith. i was once a Mormon. i left because when i asked about where in the bible is the answer they would never answer me. they have one lesson i have kept in my life. the lesson on how to live in a survival mood. such as a food pantry of extra food when money is low and also many crafts from their women's groups.

I think they believe in three parts to heaven and that they get to start their own planet if they make it to the highest part of heaven. I think they also believe Jesus is Satan's brother and that there is no Trinity.
These are things I've heard so don't critisize me if you find out I'm wrong.
