From what I've read, they are not really a "church" in the religious sense, but a collection of hatemongers and general idiots.
Religion does not teach you to hate, but to love. Anybody professing a love for God and a simultaneous hate for some human beings is not religious. Even if you don't agree with someone's lifestyle or sexual orientation, it doesn't mean you should hate that person.
So the Westboro "Baptist Church" people are not religious by any sense of the word. They are rabid anti-homosexual hatemongers who are just burning with hate inside. One cannot help but pity them; how sad must their existence be, if they find purpose in so much hate.

That's not a church. It only has about 7 members and they are all relatives of Fred Phelps. That's not a church, it's just a fanatical family with bizarre beliefs and with a certain insensitivity that most christians would object to.
