I was raised in a "Democratic" household. But, like you, because of those issues, I've been voting Republican ever for a long time. I might actually start seriously considering voting for a Democrat if the party were to ever change their stance on those two issues.
There are other major issues to consider though, such as education, trade, foreign relations, taxes and so forth.

I think you have a pretty good question here! Unfortunately, I think you'll get a lot of anti-republican and/or anti-democrat answers. It never fails, when someone asks a political question about republicans or democrats then all sorts of bashing occurs from the other side. It's sad. I wish that people would think for themselves once an a while vs. always praising their own party and bashing the other party. Again, I apprecaite your question. I relate to your situation in some ways. I'm one hundred percent anti-abortion and yet have several views that would be typically be classified as liberal/democratic.

We want what is best for everyone to enjoy freedom in our country, I'm sure. But, if you take freedoms away by dictating to people how they should be more like you, then you become a republican.
If these two issues (a total strangers' abortion or two total strangers' wedding) don't affect you DIRECTLY, then there is no reason to support a republican campain in the first place.
Bad Reasons to vote for a republican:
1. My mommy and daddy always did, so it must be right
2. I never heard of the other guy
3. I don't like people to do anything different from me
4. People should be governed by tightass leaders, no freedoms!
5. I hate everybody and everything, so what do I care
Good reasons to vote republican
1. My brother is running for president, there might be something in it for me
2. My husband is running for president, I get to pick out the china
3..???? That's about it

"the usual beneficiaries of gay marriage would be divorce legal experts." -Um, the certainty that Massachusetts has the backside divorce value interior the rustic and it grow to be the 1st state to permit gay marriages virtually ten years in the past says it is incorrect. Asker, they the two do exactly no longer decide for "the gays" to have those pesky issues noted as rights or they decide for something cut loose marriage, like civil unions, so they are able to experience their marriage is greater acceptable to the gay peoples' marriage. it is in simple terms bigotry, undeniable and straightforward. ""anti-gay" human beings generally do no longer decide for the church to know it as a real marriage. interior the christian bible it is of course between a guy and a woman" -no one cares what their church thinks approximately something. save telling your dumb daughters that birth control is from the devil so they save having infants at 14. I wrote this during the elections, sorry about how long it is, but...
A brief list of the emotional issues Republicans vote on (and never get) and the real things we can expect in return:
Republicans vote to stop abortion;
We receive a rollback in capital gains taxes and the ultra-rich paying the lowest % of taxes in our lifetime.
Republicans vote to get government off our backs;
We receive monopolies everywhere from media to meat packing.
Republicans vote to make America strong again;
We receive reindustrialization.
Republicans vote to screw those politically correct professors;
We receive a social order in which wealth is more concentrated than ever before in our lifetimes.
Republicans vote to stop gay marriage;
We receive 1.3 million working class Americans slipping into poverty.
Republicans vote to stand tall against terrorists;
We receive a corporate Social Security program. (pending)
Republicans vote against an ‘unfair liberal media’;
We receive an unquestioned $417 billion military budget - more than the next twelve countries COMBINED and most of them are our allies.
Republicans vote to bring morality to our schools;
We receive a government sell-off of our countries natural resources.
Republicans vote for small government;
We receive a crippling corporate health care system.
Republicans vote for strong Christian values;
We receive a corporate school system. (pending)
Republicans vote for a ‘right to bare arms’;
We receive the largest and most fiscally irresponsible government in our history.
Republicans vote to strike a blow against elitism;
We receive corporate deregulations.
Republicans vote against illegal immigrants;
We receive a government that works in secrecy and treats its people with contempt.
Lastly, be brainwashed into thinking there is a group (‘liberals’) that are trying to take things from you (thus turning your misery into hate toward them) and you pretty much have the Republican platform; it’s a bait and switch with fear being the bait and money for their corporate friends and sponsors being the 'switch'.

How can you call yourself a liberal than? Wouldn't you be considered independent? Those are some pretty big issues that would distinguish you from being liberal or conservative.

There are a few other issues on which the Dems would have to change their positions. Those issues would include fetal stem-cell research, cloning, and euthanasia.
