i've seen every other nut in the shell from almonds to brazil nuts and cocoa nuts. i have never seen a cashew in the shell?

your answers are all so good! i think the one with the most informative answer is the one ill give thi10 pts to! thanks to all! i never knew the cashew nut was a seed.so why do WE call it a nut?

It is called a cashew apple. I grew up eatig them and they are wonderful. As you click on the link below, you will see a bright red and yellow fruit. That is the apple. attached to it you will see a kidney shaped pod. The cashew is inside the pod. The pd is cracked open and then roasted.

The fruit is never sold in the US because it spoils so quickly. I was fortunate enough to grow up in the tropics, and had the pleasure of enjoying this fruit right off the tree!

No, it's dark in there. But I would imagine that it looks the same as a cashew outside the shell.

A cashew is a SEED inside of a fruit, I often wondered this myself so I looked into it.

Cashews are technically a seed, therefore they don't have a shell. They are the seeds of the cashew apple, which is edible as well.

it is of the same shape of the shell.it has got a small projection on the top .it is off white in colour
