^^^ Up there, A fool in a mask, masquerading as a healer. Got a prob Female dog doctor? Bring your bad medicine this way, I got some medicine for you. You suffer from diarrhea of the lip & constipation of the mind, which makes you a sh!thead. Want me to rub some peanutbutter in your hair so everyone can tell what you are?
Sqwirl, your article is a fine piece of work, with many valid points, but it does not change the fact that Americas southern border as well as our northern border needs to be secured. The evidence of this is all around us, I see criminal trespassers each and every day, & more are illegally entering My country as we type. Here is what I have to say to you, If you wont become part of the solution, do not become a part of the problem. What do you have against America & Americans? Isnt this YOUR country too? Have you no honor? oh, excuse the faux pas, I forgot for a moment who I was addressing, of course you have no honor, you proved that the other night along with your little butt buddy Bitchdoctor. Be a nice guy now & dont go getting your panties in a bunch. laters

Assimilate, assimilate, Is it so damn bad or hard to become part of the society in which we live to learn English and to come here LEGALLY? That is all we want I don't care how they dress or speak amongst themselves at home or where ever, but don't tell me I have to learn Spanish to accomodate bunch of illegal even criminal aliens. I am married to an immigrant from Cambodia and I don't care if she keeps her culture and language in fact our daughter can speak the language fluently. My wife and all 13 members of her family that came here with her learned English. THey all speak it and most can read it only the older people have a hard time reading it so why canthe Mexicans, Salvadorans and Nicuraguans learn. And my wifes family came here legally all of them, because her father was a General in the Cambodian Army that helped the US fight the north Vietnamese and was trained by the US. Also they had a sponser. If they could do it from all the way on the otherside of the world. Hispanics from South of our borders can doit properly too.

Very good article.
It explains some of the facts with many Americans conflicts with the current wave of immigration. It is not legitimized by Americans or by the immigrants themselves. By not following the rules from the get go they show they don't want to be part of the melting pot. Current multicultural thinking is certainly hurting the cohesiveness of America, by pointing out differences more than similarities and making it seem ok for them not to assimilate faster. They are not assimilating fast enough ie, not learning English fast enough and not declaring themselves as Americans. By saying that I feel they need to learn English and want not only the American dream but also to be Americans I am not racist. I work with lots of Hispanic kids and they do best here when they learn English quickly and it will give them the best chance of the best life here: Higher paying jobs, more upward mobility. Being illegal and speaking a different language will always keep them separate from the rest of American society. My grandparents had to learn English when they legally immigrated here. They also started their own business and did very well financially.

Your condescending attitude is quite annoying. I don't need you to evaluate whether or not something may or may not be over my head. BTW reading one article doesn't make you really smarter..... it might make you a little better informed about one topic.

When I say people should assimilate, I mean learn the language and things like that. I see arab americans all the time wearing scarves and covering their faces. That is their culture, and that is totally cool. I mean, some of those arab chicks look hot. And those scarves and veils leave so much to the imagination. But that is cool keeping their culture while assimilating.

OK, so 'integration' rather than melting pot or salad bowl. Intercomunication (requiring English) but not acculturalization (requiring loss of one's cultural identity). Subscription to a common polity or national identity, and certain guiding principles, and goals. And good will.
I'll buy that.
However, I think that is what we always meant.
