I am considering starting a pet care business, & would like to offer dog-walking service for people who work long hours & must leave their dogs at home. I live in central PA, & I am trying to find out if people in general like this service, & if so, what would be a fair rate to charge? High gas prices & I have to pay my bills, but what's fair?

I live in So. Cal and had my own pet sitting business for 7 years...very successful, always had loads of business and usually had to turn people away during the holidays! Most of my clients were people that worked all day and could not get home to let their dogs out. Also did a lot of work for vacationers, and also offered overnight stays for dogs not used to being alone. I stopped sitting about a year ago...before gas was as high as it is now and my rates were as follows: $15.00 for each visit for 1 pet, I would add another few dollars if having to walk 2 dogs. Overnights were $65.00 per night. Hope this helps. Depends on the area where you live..but these should be pretty standard. Check out other sitters prices in your area and see what they are charging.

I puppysit for someone i know. I walk her 2 dogs and play with them for an hour a day 3 days a week. for about $15 a day but thats to cover gas as well. when she had one it was $25 a week. Try giving customers with multiple dogs a discount on other dogs. add/or subtract a dollar or something for distance from your house or for the size of the dog. Good luck with it!
