Prawns are referred to the larger variety of the two. After eating in restaurants throughout the world, I must say that the size that differentiate the two will vary. Food wise they both are the same thing.

Not sure, I used to think it was a size thing but then I heard of tiger shrimp. I now think maybe prawn is British and shrimp is American, because when I was in England I used to buy prawn cocktail chips,and in the rest of the world I seem to hear the word shrimp all the time.

I have never had prawn but I do know that shrimp comes from salt water and prawn comes from fresh water.

Prawns are larger then shrimps and prawns has a sweeter taste to them

Prawns are large compared to shrimp. They are generally preferred in gourmet cooking.

The difference is about 4 inches. If it is less than that it is shrimp.
