I agree with the other answers. You first need to contact the police and obtain a restraining order. He needs to stay away from her as well. He needs to realize that he can not have anything to do with her.
It appears that you have found out through the grapevine that this girl is bipolar. She is certainly suffering from mental illness, she may have been diagnosed. Bipolar is treated through medication and it appears that she may have gone off her medication.
If she attends his school, I would make sure that you deliver a letter to both the school and your police department. In this kind of case, you always want evidence. In some states you can make tapes of phone calls and in others it is not legal, however, even if it is illegal, sometimes it isn't prosecuted. When you put things in writing, the other party is more apt to do something about the situation since it can't backpedal should something go wrong.
As an example the Columbine killers had posted threats on the Internet and parents of an intended victim notified the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department by letter. The sheriff's department did not properly investigate the claim, they couldn't deny that it didn't exist and they were found negligent.

Call the police and explain the threats and the person's mental health history. They will help you decide if you need to go to court for a restraining order, but remember that not everyone follows the rules of those court ordres.
Don't answer the phone. Use an answer machne to screen the calls in the meantime.
People with bipolar disorders have highs and lows, manic times and depressive times. But you should not ignore the threats!

Not all Bipolars are bad. I am Bipolar and I have never done what she did. She obviously isn't on her medication or she wouldn't be doing what she is doin. Bipolars have to and i say have to stay on their medications in order to live a normal happy life. I know when i hit my downs i don't say i am going to kill someone i just sit and cry. I would tell her if she calls again to seek some help from a psychiatrist.

Report this to the police. Get a restraining order. I hope your son is no longer interested in her? It would be best if your son does not talk to her or see her. Advise him to not answer the phone, but to screen all his calls with an answering machine. This way she gets no attention by calling him and he has a record of her violating the restraining order.
After getting a restraining order, report to the police all violations of the restraining order. Finally, if she is a danger to herself or others, she can be committed to a psychiatric facility and forced to take medication for her illness. Usually petitions for commitment are filed by a persons parents or other close relative.
The best scenario would be for this woman to get on a medication that reduces or eliminates this woman's symptoms of her mental illness.

Call the police. They are the only ones who can help with harrassment. It won't be considered stalking unless he was in a relationship with her, but harrassment is punishable by law, and she can be served an ex parte and/or restraining order. Document her phone calls--what time of the day, how many, how many threats and what they say. A few calls won't get the police involved, but a continual pattern will step it up.
Good luck!!

For the record, folks, most bipolars are NOT crazy, psychotic stalkers who murder their own children and talk to themselves. She could have been off her meds, be a misdiagnosed schizophrenic, or never have been on medication in the first place. If she is really scary, call the police on her.

My aunt is bipolar. It's kind of scary. I stay the hell away from her. And as for your son, sucks for him. Just get a restraining order.. quick. Lock the doors and close the curtains, dude. She might be watching you all.

Calling the police is a MUST to protect your family.
The police cannot heal her bipolar, therefore, she needs to see a counsellor too.

Call the police! Get a restraining order and start recording the calls! Do not tolerate it, its not your problem if she has a mental disorder, just make it stop!
