Awhile ago there was this poster (Pill of Truth) who said that because the Prophet Mohammed married and consummated with a 9yr old girl (Aishet), this makes pedophilia acceptable in the eyes of God since Mohammed did it, and thus it is acceptable to do this.
This guy also said as additional justification: "Just because children have no freedom or experience or leverage doesnt make it rape. Children are better able to make life decisions than adults." (what a load of bullsh*t)

To Answer...did you read the guy's question? It says in his last paragraph that why cant pedophilia be in the list of acceptable-to-Allah behavior...

Ok for you mindless pricks who accuse me of blashpemy...I was just quoting stuff from mr. Pill of Truth...and I did not intend to debate about the Prophet's teachings or actions. Yes he did not consummate the marriage yet...but mr. Pill of Truth again is using the event as an excuse for Pedophilia... I was asking if you guys agree with this man's interpretation?

To Soli man86...I never meant to apply our beliefs and morals to what Arabians did back in the 6-7th century...that would be sociologically ignorant of me. But bear in mind that some people (like mr. Pill of Truth) want to apply those same ancient morals to what we modern-society people do now...?

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, Mary got pregnant when she was some 13 or 14 years old. In Islam, it is also believed that Mary got pregnant during her very early adolescence. Back then, things were different. Girls would get engaged and married at a very young age – marriage was lawful after reaching puberty. This holds in all three monotheistic religions: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.

This helps answer non-Muslims’ harsh critics on Muhammad’s marriage to his youngest wife ‘A’isha, who was 9 years old. The fact is that ‘A’isha had even already been engaged at the age of 3 to a non-Muslim named Jaber ibn al-Mut‘em ibn Udayy; but girls in Arabia, without exception, become eligible for marriage only after reaching puberty (that's why she was engaged to the prophet at 6 and only married at 9 - remember that it is her parents who also agreed to the marriage). Also, keep in mind, that 'A'isha was Muhammad's wife, not just any 9 year old like in the case of pedophiles who are just after adultery.

Therefore, it does not make sense to compare our views to the social norms of the olden days when today people get married in their 30s or even early 40s. Moreover, it has to be noted that people back then used to live shorter lives, and, hence, got married and had children at a younger age. Today things are different: lifespan is longer, livelihood, better, education, essential, women have become independent and schooled... marrying someone who is still in his teens is not functional. Finally, 'A'isha kept loving the prophet even after he died, she is after all the second most frequent provider of hadiths after Abu Huraira.

All of the above arguments create a clear barrier between Muhammad's marriage to 'A'isha and the pedophilia occuring today, which i can assure you that 100% of Muslims condemn, and i am one of them. Nor would I marry or want to marry someone in his teens or even younger (after having reached puberty) because I know we would be incompatible, but that's only because i'm living in our present-day society. Who knows, perhaps i would have had a different opinion if i lived in 7th century arabia, and so would many people who bash islam because of this (especially Christians who know that Mary got pregnant at a very young age, and that prophet Solomon had like 700 wives according to the bible, and yet they attack the notion of 72 virgins in paradise...but that's a different subject).

Times were different then and life expectancy was lower. There are records of young brides all over the world.
It is disputed that Aiesha was 9 when the marriage was consumated a lot of scholars think that she could have been as old as 17, far older than most brides are when the marriage is consumated.
The evidence of her age comes from hadith and can't be proven. It is also said that The virgin mary was 11 or 12 when she gave birth to jesus, and God does nothing wrong and makes no mistakes.
And an a Muslim I will say that if a man asked to marry my 12 year old or 6 year old i would have him arrested, times are different .

First of All Aisha was young when he married her but He did not Consummated( Did touch her in any way sexually) until She was in Puberty.( she was able to have intercourse)
First when ever someone tells you something look at the Proof and see if they will bring from the Quran what it said. Sleeping with children in nasty are crazy.
I wonder have you asked you self that in today's society that same question you ask the Muslims. and wonder do they have good sense.
Today 13 and 14 years old girls that are in puberty are doing alot more before marriage than a 25 years old. No Muslims ever said this was Acceptable Islam is a Faith of proof Bring it if you have it feel free.

Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) married Aishah for ending the pagan tradition of not marrying the daughter of one's friend who is called as 'brother' even once.

In islam, biological relationships play the decisive role whether once should marry a woman or not. Just by calling a friend 'brother' made it unlawful for the man to marry from his offspring. It was considered to be taboo.

This was the pagan tradition. In order to break this, the prophet (PBUH) married Aishah as she was the daughter of his close friend. but she stayed in her home till she attained puberty

But only when she was matured enough, she came to the prophet's home.

Just look around the situation in the US, a girl of 10-14 years can have sex before marriage and you find no harm in it. She may give birth and thats fine without a marriage.

but here the prophet married her, gave her rights a wife oughts to get and you think its pedophilia ???

You find 100s of news about child rape, and assault in the US, thats fine and no one raises any issue about this. Why? Many are killed still no issue, But the Legalised marraige of the prophet an issue always???
