does the uniform remind them of the dog catcher, the smell of the mail (maybe reminding them of newspapers[they seem to like to tear apart])...?....

I don't think its the uniform, I think its the intrusion by a stranger on the dogs territory. If the mailman shows no fear, and has the owner introduce them, that could solve the problem.

I don't think it's necessarily the uniform they hate. They hate that mailmen invade their territory every day. Mabe dogs come to dislike anyone in uniform because they confuse them for the mailman?

It's a negative association with man+uniform coming upon what they typically consider "their" territory. My dog freaks over the mail person, UPS & FedEx people.

I suspect people like the mailman have had bad experiences with dogs and become tense. The dog then reacts to their emotional state.

Probably cause the mailman usually enters the yard to deliver mail...the dog just see's him as an intruder.

You dog most likely has issues with authority figures...

Dogs only can see in black and white, he probably feels intimidated by someone in a uniform (which usually look dark to them)

I have a dog myself, and I always thought this to be a myth (sort of). I think the reason why dogs are hostile most to mailpeople, is because they're common 'intruders'..... I mean my dog will bark at strangers who come too close to our house, but it won't bark if he sees me interacting with that stranger. Mailpeople must be worse because they come daily and dogs don't see their owners talking with their mailpeople (if people even bothered to talk to them).

A. They are "stealing" from the dogs property.
B. Dog barks and the man goes away. The dog thinks that she made the man go away by barking.

It seems to be the sound of the engines because mine start before the delivery truck turns the corner & it only get worse from there
