You lose between 50 & 100 hairs per day, & most of them are shed while washing or brushing the hair. It is competely normal to lose your hair, it goes through a shedding phase to get rid of old hair, once your hair is shedded a new one will grow in it's place.
If your hair is in fact coming out in large clumps this could be a seriouse problem & you should consult a doctor right away.

I have the same problem. Two things: One, i live in Phoenix, AZ but i have only lived here a couple of years. I used to live in a cool, moist climate, now i am in a hot dry one. When i moved here my hair started doing the same thing. It would come out in handfulls. All my friends and sister in laws have the same problem here, so perhaps it has to do with your environment partially. Second, stress really effects my hair. A year ago when i had a nasty stressful job it would come out all over the place all the time, and very much so in the shower. Now that i have a nice, mellow job i hardly notice the "fallout." However, when i have a really stressful day, I notice serious hair loss for the next couple of days. Also when it's moist out like during monsoon i have less hair loss than winter when it's dry.
ALso consider nutrition. This effects hair skin and nails a lot. For example, i did not know i was Wheat Gluten Intolerant. I have always had extremely thin, breakable nails. I have been on a Wheat free diet for 2 years now and i notice that little things like my nails and hair are so much stronger, my nails are thicker too. You could have a vitamin or mineral deficency, or you may be eating something your body rejects. I highly recommend a nutritionist. Lastly, I started using a shampoo & conditioner (and other treatments) called Nioxin. this really helps. Very readily available, check any salon or beauty store. It is rich in vitamins (especially C) and is your best defense against fallout. I have seen bald spots in women (from similar hair loss) grow back from this product. Also look into heredity. it is possible for women to experience hair loss because of genes. take care and remember to try to stress less and get all your vitamins and minerals.

You DO need to take some measures to protect your fair from being got damaged and fasten them in the root area. And you'd better choose some nutritious shampoo, and I suggest you should go see a doctor.

Mine does that too and so does my sisters. And it has nothing to do with anorexia or bulemia. That was kinda insulting....=| Anyway, it's normal. Just like every mammal in the world...we all shed

Are you anorexic or bulimic? Do you have some other health issue? You better go and see a doctor and find out.
Best of luck

Are you using any chemicals in your hair? If so, it could be over processed.
Stress could do it too. I know from personal experience.
