The idea is that you give 2,3,4,5,6 a value of negative one, 7,8,9, have a value of zero, and 10,J,Q,K,A have a value of positive one. Keep track of all the cards that have come out. Add up all the positives at negatives so if you had 3,4,k,j,8,2,A,10 the count would be +1.

When the count gets very negative start betting more because more face cards are in the deck. More face cards are good because one, you get a better chance of winning off the first two cards and two, because it's easier to predict what the dealer has. If you assume he is hiding a face card it is easier to play defense.

You can reasonably count into a two deck shoe, but they offer lower BlackJack Payout which in the end evens out if not lowers your odds. Some will also have different rules for splitting or surrendering lowering your odds further. Also in two deck or single deck blackjack your opponents cards are covered. Most tables have 5 or 6 deck shoes, they'd probably let you count out loud if you wanted, because there's no way you can count into a 6 deck shoe with any sort of accuracy.

When playing Blackjack at a Casino, I prefer the six card deck. Then I count only the A's. Easier to keep track of only 24 cards, and so important to the game. You can go one step further, if you want to get real involved and count the 10's, J's, Q's, and K's, also. But I find that counting all of those cards is too tedious and takes away from the fun of the game.

Read "Bringing Down the House" about the MIT students who perfected a card counting scam. It can be too much for one person. It's also just a great book if you like gambling.

One system is to give a positive value for cards over 10 and negative for cards less than 10. It works for up to 2 decks in blackjack.

It just gives you a slight edge in guessing whether the next card dealt will be a high or low card.

It is not illegal to count cards. However, casinos will have you leave if they believe you are counting cards.

In black jack their is a system, which is to long to explain on here, just go to the book store in your area and read all the books while you are their, don't bother to buy the books, just read them at the store, it's what I did.

Read them all on every type of gambling, their was only one I bought, which had value.

counting cards is a very difficult technique, and is not recommended for the obvious reasons. if you get caught, the fee is very high, not to mention that you won't be able to play poker again in that room.
in addition, counting card is illegal.
the only thing that close to cheating on poker, and is still legal, is poker help tools.

here's a link to a poker odds calculator that i use. it gives you an advantage on other players, it recommends your next move for you, and it's completely legal. you can get it completely free while depositing in a major poker room.
