If you don't have any close friends or family that can have a backyard event, then check around the yellow pages. Call and ask what their site fees are, and the rules about usage. It would help to know where you are located and/or having the wedding.

Try

for site locations near you. Most of them listed will allow alcohol. It's free to join, and they have tons of great information and tools to help you plan your big day.

I'm in the same situation as you!

Using a friends backyard/acreage is a GREAT idea, but in my case I don't know anyone with a big enough backyard to fit 150-200 guests...plus, I'm not really into having an outdoor wedding reception. I am focusing on venues that allow me to bring in my own caterer. That way, I can hire a caterer but also provide some of the food on my own. That would save a lot of $$! To my surprise, I have found some beautiful places (NOT HALLS), check out your city website and the phone book and start calling around!

Also check out this book, it gave me some neat ideas...

"How to have a Big Wedding on a Small Budget" by Diane Warner. I just borrowed a copy from my local library.

Best of luck!

Cutie pie has made a great suggestion!

I live in a rural country town and alot of brides opt to have a wedding on the farm properties that have beautiful gardens. This is a great idea and if you know the garden owners, it'll likely be free of charge! Can't get cheaper than that!

To find a local garden, get in contact with a local garden club and ask somebody where a nice couple acre garden is that's suitable for a wedding, they'll be more than happy to throw suggestions your way. Of course, you have to want a garden wedding of course.

- on the beach (check if you need any permits)
- meaningful location (spot where you first met, spot where you had your first date, etc.)
- ranch
- as the others mentioned, someone's home/backyard, a rented mansion, etc.
- museum
- historical site

* fees at some religious and public locations can be written off as tax deductible contributions.....so ask about it when you check out different places!

best wishes!! :)
