so often in my area, i notice bicyclists riding on the worst roads with no shoulders. They act like they have every right to be there, it would be easier to pity them if they would at least have the decency to be embarassed of the fact that they are riding a bike, and dressed like a clown

What a stupid question and I never say that. Yes, I have a right to be there. I probably pay more in taxes than you earn. I have the same rights as a car. Ask that last idiot who buzzed me. Got a nice citation. Ask the one before that has an imprint of my cleat on his passenger door. Becareful about which cyclist you mess with. You never know.

Guess what, Junior? Those roads that you covet so highly were originally designed for BICYCLES, not cars. The bicycle was invented in 1867, while cars didn't appear until the late 1890's. Because of the jarring ride, New York city was the first to pave the streets so that bicyclists could ride in safety.

Since it seems that you have no purpose in life but to proudly display your ignorance, allow me to point out that in most states bicycles are to be considered the same as any other vehicle on the road. They have all the rights and responsibilities as cars, and if that means ruining YOUR precious day then you have bigger problems.

If you don't like cyclists riding on the road, why don't YOU call your local DOT and get a shoulder paved instead of being a whiny BlTCH about it? Besides, a cyclist has more control over their bike than you could ever hope to have in your Hummer.

Ask yourself something: do you HONESTLY think that anything you do or say will make any cyclist actually stop riding? Pretty full of yourself, aren't you?

Clowns, by the way, have funny hair like mullets, big floppy shoes like work boots, wife-beater shirts and NASCAR stickers on the back of their worthless SUVs.

Whatever biker you see that looked like a clown could have accually been a clown riding a bike. IT can do that every day of the year if IT pleased. That's funny cause accually I look like a clown everyday triing to sprint down the street to get away from you stinky vehicle farts siting in a stupid car seat that costs the same as a decent bike that smells worse than if I rode through a swamp that also saves the world from which nobody can sprint away from. This world is gonna be my home wether you stink it up or not. i crash cars but ride bikes great...Believe me i'm scared of every person behind any vehicle, they prolly can't even ride a bike to go get their cigarettes on their healthiest day or drive there car or truck on the coldest worst day but i'll be riding both of those times so go pity somebody else cause you never know what IT is that will kill you!

I here this question often and I believe it needs too be used on the DL exam and in our schools in driver education classes too make people aware of cyclist. People who drive an automobile are not aware that cyclist have rights for the road as someone driving a car.

I have every right to be there, and I fully intend on staying there.

You say it would be easier to pity them if they would at least have the decency to be embarrassed of the fact that they are riding a bike, and dressed like a clown.

Well It's clear we have someone who knows nothing about the sport of cycling because if you did you would know that funny helmet, those funny shorts and shirt all serve a purpose as well as alot of other things in cycling you apparently know nothing about.

So the next time you pick a statement or a question at least pick something you know something about.

I think that's like saying that all car drivers think they own the road and care nothing about the environment.

Why do you care how they dress, wearing bright colors make them more visible, so I don't see why they should be embarrassed by it. If you have a problem by riding a bike, then don't do it, it's your choice. It's their choice to ride their bike.

I don't know about the legal stuff about riding in your area. If it's ilegal to ride a bike in some roads, then I agree with you that they shouldn't ride there. But as long as there isn't a restriction for them, then they have the same right as you as a car driver.

What the ciclist should do is to also respect the laws of trafic and right of ways.

Cyclists have no time to ignore traffic, they'd get killed!!! People who do those stupid things aren't really cyclists, just crazy people or showoffs. Cyclists have every right to use the road, but they also have responsibilities to other motorists. In fact, most cyclists are even better drivers than those sitting in cars!! YOur so-called "bicyclists" who disregard other forms of traffic, and think they own the road, don't deserve to ride, and even own a bike!!! AAAARRGHH!!!

Ignore real traffic?!?!

I've never seen a cyclist gazing into space while riding. We have to pay attention to what's going on in the road because most people in their cars DO NOT. What appears to be creating a dangerous situation is really reacting to stupid actions by other people. Even on bike paths people do not pay attention. Apparently they ARE the only ones around and rules don't apply to them. If you are in a busy parks and there are people all around you it probably wouldn't hurt to be courteous of others and stay to one side of the path so others can pass you. Also, if you have children and you do not care enough about them to watch them why should I care enough about them to avoid them at the risk of wrecking $3000 worth of carbon fiber. As far as dressing like clowns...do you wear shorts when it snows. No, you dress accordingly. Then again asking a question like this there is probably not alot of common sense in your world so maybe you do wear shorts in the snow.

Bicyclists do have every right to be there. And most of the time. they are more aware of the traffic then motorists. They have to be. There are not air bags or impact panels on a bike. The most protection we have is our helmets. I will bet you that any bicyclist, at any given time, knows every car coming towards them, there approximate speed and what direction their turning, if using a signal.

First let me say a big "**** YOU" to the majority of the bike haters on here your likely all to fat to ride for one whats the matter cant find a bike strong enough to support your giant car driving asses? Not only should we be on the road but its a good thing we are, statistics show that for every large cyclist such as my self over the course of his or her lifetime an average of 15 dipshit drivers will get there lights knocked out for cutting us off ...seems a good enough reason for more people to ride to me

Because we like to piss off ignorant motorists that actually believe they have more rights than others based on their chosen form of transportation. We actually feel sorry for the pathetic motorists that need to buy big trucks to make up for a lack of endowment and are compelled to display their ignorance of the law by complaining about us here.

Here's a news flash for you Bozo... we do have every right to be there. We also have a responsibility to follow the laws; the same ones that you are supposed to be following. Do you yield the right-of-way do a cyclist when the law requires it? In most states, a bicycle and rider are a vehicle.

Do some studying of the law and try getting out of your cage.

Well you cant ride 220km around a park when you have people walking and disobaying the path rules.

Dogs off leads running all over the place.

riding a bike is not for fasion but for fitness and train for prise money when winning a race.

untill the law is re written and the tour down under, tour de france, tour de swiss, tour of itally, and with petrol prices rising
it will grow day by day you cant have a tour de france in a park with people riding 3,000km in 3 weeks around a park.....Come see the
Tour de park in france no mountains no sponsorship just 90 riders in a park..... there would be no money in for the bikes.
riders these days pull in exsess of 1,000,000.00 not bad for riding a bike well looking like a clown!
