I am planning a small picnic for myself and a friend, but she doesn't like sandwiches. I am not sure what to bring, besides fruit and juice.

A nice spin on a sandwich is pita pockets. I made a curry chicken salad pita pockets for a picnic this summer and they were a big hit. Using meat from a rotisserie chicken instead of boiled chicken makes it especially tasty. I just mixed red curry powder into the mayonnaise before combining it with the chicken. Green onions and celery also give it a nice fresh flavor/texture.

Okay well I don't like sandwiches either, but if they are on a bun or pita, those are actually quite good, so there is something to consider. Fried chicken, salads, cold pizza, deli meats, veggies and dip, crackers and cheese are all quite nice and will compliment the fruit and juice or water.

Fresh fruit is always fantastic. Any cold salads, traditional or macaroni. Deviled eggs are a personal favourite of mine. If you want a more romantic, or classier picnic, instead of bread grab a fresh baguette from your local bakery, and a sampling of cheeses, and deli meats.

You could do taco meat in the crockpot and use the Morning Star like product and low sodium taco seasoning, onion. Diced tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, salsa, soft wraps/hard shells, cheese. Mixed fruit, mixed cheese, crackers. Cupcakes. Hummus, baby carrots, cucumbers.

Cold fried chicken is supposed to be picnic food, and macaroni salad.

Deviled eggs, too, come to think of it, and crackers.

Cold pumpkin or tomato soup, too, if you like that.

Don't forget summer fruits like melons, strawberries and blueberries too.

You're making me hungry!
