yes, u can.
i fail to backup to any removable disk using XP backup utility (my Xp isn't corrupt and it works fine).
so u solution is backup software and some removable disk. it could be USB flash drive or second HDD.
as for software : one above advised Norton ghost, but i'd recommend Acronis True Image(http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/
).
cause ATI is cheaper, has more features and is just more reliable.anyway, i've met review lately about those two.
i think that should help u to make finally decision

Yes - but
I have a Samsung CD-RW and a Dell. Both require you to format the CD/RW before writing data to it.

In order to "read" the data and copy it to your PC, or a new one, the receiving PC must have the reading program that comes with the burner.

I think an easier way would be to get a flashdrive. A 1G was on sale in today's paper for $25. They come in 2G, 4G, and there are external hard drives at 40G, 80G, 160G -- etc. They transfer data like the old floppies and there is no problem going back and forth.

Assuming you're hard drive is small enough to fit on a CD (which I highly doubt it is), then yes. Chances are it isn't however. If you have a DVD-RW drive then that would certainly be better. If you still do not have that, try backing up to another drive, preferably on another computer. You can easily use your Home Network and Windows' built-in Backup program to do this. If not, try another hard drive on the same computer.

I wouldn't back up the entire drive. Just burn whatever you don't want to lose onto a DVD.
