i really like linux most distros now are very much comparable with windows playing divx creating images burning cds it does however lack the mainstrean "pc" games support without trying to run a windows emulator i suggest b4 you switch try a live distro liek knoppix it runs completly off the cd making no changes to the hard drive and will give you a good idea about linux also walmart.com of all places sells a pc amd with linux fully configured for around 150 bucks

I found linux to be much slower than Windows on the same PC. If you have an older computer, you might want to think twice. Also, unless you are very well acquainted with computer concepts, you might have some trouble just getting around the user interface.
I think most linux users see it as a hobby more than anything else. But if you are really interested, there are some Linux distributions that boot off of a CD so you can try it without changing anything to your current system. And if you dont like it, toss the disk.
